Explosion in Pula: Albanians in Croatia Targeted

The owners of a bakery in Pula, Muhamed and Milaim, are shocked at the explosions and suspect that the incident was nationally motivated.

PULA, CROATIA - In the late hours of February 20 in Pula, bombs were placed under two vans owned by Albanians from Kosovo. The theme of the television show “10 to 8” on Nova TV was if the incident was nationally motivated or not. The owners of the bakery Muhamed and Milaim Cenaj were guests in the show, and said that they suspected Serbs to be the perpetrators, and think the event was nationally motivated.

- My sons have received threatening messages on their mobile phones that said “Death to Kosovars” and “We will blow up your bakery”. When they called the number that was sending them the messages, Milorad introduced himself – said Muhamed Cenaj. He also mentioned that after the call, he again received a threatening message that said he would kill them all if they called the number again.

The bombs were placed underneath two identical vans, the Cenaj family suspects, because they use them to transport bread, so the attacker wanted to be sure that he would cause the maximum amount of damage that he intended on doing.

This incident is quite weird for Istria, because one of Pula’s assets is its multiculturalism, said the president of the Albanian council from Pula, Idris Sulejmani, who will not comment on the motives behind the explosions until the police complete their investigation.

- This method does not get anything done, and the reason for the attack will be discovered by the police after they finish their investigation - said Sulejmani.

The mayor of Pula, Boris Miletic agreed with Idris Sulejmani’s words, and added that police surveillance will be at a heightened level in the coming days in order to prevent such incidents in the beginning.

For the end, the Cenaj family said that they are not afraid, because they believe that the police will soon find the perpetrators, but that they are not comfortable that they are the target of bombers full of hate.
