Senior police officers today said they are struggling to cope with a whopping 800 per cent rise in crimes committed by Romanians in this country.

Top officers spoke to respected force magazine Police Review to express their fears after an unprecedented rise in offences by the east Europeans.

They say the "dramatic increase" is putting a strain on forces across the country since migrant gangs began to flood into the UK following EU accession in January last year.

Statistics revealed a staggering 339 crimes a month are now being carried out every month in London since the influx - compared to just 30 in 2006.

Supt Bernie Gravett said pickpocketing children - who are controlled by Fagin-style masters - are causing the biggest drain since they started to move out of the capital to target backwater communities.

The senior officer - who heads a 12-strong Met unit dedicated to the problem in Westminster - said: "It's not just London - it's affecting every force in the UK.

"This is a new type of crime that we are encountering.

"It is the criminal exploitation of children who come from very poor backgrounds in a foreign country.

"They cannot run away or turn to anyone when they are being abused and exploited."

He said cops were shocked when a survey of 126 Romanian children in London revealed that their convictions were spread across 32 police force areas around the UK.

According to Met officers the villains, who rake in around £100,000 from each child each year, are using children as young as six to unleash this crime wave which can net them up to £200 million annually.

Gangs buy the children from impoverished parents in Romania for as little as 200 Euros before they are trafficked to the UK.

One senior officer who asked not to be named said that forces are struggling to cope.

He said: "Because the children are so young it is very difficult to prosecute unless you get to the adults.

"But they are told to say nothing and just ask for their mums and dads who then deny all knowledge."

I think it is quite sad how Romanians have to have their reputation ruined by their Gypsy minority. It doesn't help that Gypsies call themselves Roma. It has been more than once that I've witnessed some ignoramus claiming that Romanians are Gypsies.

It looks that the story that it is always Romanian Gypsies giving Romanians a bad name, is quite effective.

Romanian Gypsies do commit crimes, yes. And surely on a larger percentage. But so do non-Gypsy Romanians.

I'm sure ethnic Romanians do as well, but as wast he case in Italy recently, its the Gypsies who arouse attention.

I'm pretty sure this is mostly a Gypsy practice.

Well, what I'm saying is based on direct observation of events. The Romanian gangs here are particularly vicious, and while they are Gypsies sometimes they are not necessarily Gypsies all of the time.

As for prostitution, I don't know of any case and details off the top of my head, where Romanian gangs have been involved in child prostitution. Be them Gypsy or not. But with regards to prostitution in general, it is both Gypsies and non-Gypsies involved. As there are many 'freelancers' too.

I was commenting this in the Staff forums a moment ago. I don't know what went on during the years of staunch Socialist regime in Romania, that an entire nation (or a vast part of it) was morally bankrupted.

It is very sad, when you think about it.
