Sweden funds fight against honour crimes

Sweden said on Thursday it had set aside 32 million kronor ($4.9 million) to fund local efforts to combat so-called honour crimes.

"The government prioritises work to fight honour-related violence and oppression," said Integration and Gender Equality Minister Nyamko Sabuni in a statement.

"Many youths, mainly girls, who are the victims of honour oppression are living in very difficult conditions, sometimes risking their lives... The victims must have easy access to protection and support."

Honour-related violence, including killings, are sometimes seen by male relatives as a way to avenge their honour if a woman is suspected of being unchaste and of having brought shame on her family.

While such crimes are most common in some Muslim parts of the Middle East and Asia, and are increasingly being seen in certain immigrant communities in Western countries, experts say Islam in no way condones the practice.

Thursday's announcement came as Swedish police were investigating whether a 16-year-old girl who died after falling from a fourth-floor balcony last week was the victim of an honour killing.

Her stepfather and 19-year-old brother have reportedly been charged with her murder.

This funds will in no way stop this honour killings, maybe they'll just have few more Muslims charged with murder, but even this is doubtful as the funds will probably end up in pockets of corrupt Goverment officials.

Not that I have much problems with this honour killing, I believe that everyone has the right to keep his culture, and if his culture includes this, I won't judge it from a so called "western" point of view. The problem of course is when this is practiced in a land where this culture is completly alien and so here we come back to the issue of immigration, multiculturalism and so on.

So as I have anti-integration views, I wouldn't support this. The differences between the cultures of Muslims and Swedes keeps those two apart, if you try to integrate Muslims into Swedish culture (which will never work 100% anyway), you'll get a bunch of Muslims confused about what their real identity is and on the other hand Swedes who are also confused about whether Muslims really are part of their world or not.

Swedish men have also been killed. I wonder what the figures would be if anyone actually attempted to make some plain statistics... but who cares... it surely must be a lot more important for Sweden to meddle in the private affairs of foreigners than to target their negative influence on Swedes.

It is 69% "Yes" vs 31% "No" after I voted.

I wonder if they have a clear idea of where to start to put those funds, for a start. Housing and benefits for immigrant women who claim to be escaping from honour revenges? That's going to be abused at any rate, like all funds put to benefit immigrants.

It is a no-win battle under these conditions. As the local and national authorities make clumsy moves, self-restricted by their own politically correct and pro-multiculturalist mentality, foreign immigrant cultures move forward and gain terrain every single day, imposing themselves little by little over the local culture.
