Some 50 people take part in a spectacular quarrel in the streets of Alcorcón El Mundo January 21, 2007 Apparently, the target was a South American youth presumably member of the Latin Kings gang At least three youngsters have been taken to hospital, two of them wounded by knife, after a massive quarrel in the streets of Alcorcon, in the periphery of Madrid. One of them is being kept under intensive care after undergoing surgery for six knife wounds on his back. According to the first set of data released by the General-Director of Security of the town of Alcorcón, a group of people met on Saturday night with the idea of attacking a young man who is believed to be a member of the South American gang known as Latin Kings and who migh have been accompanied by other young people too. Police suspects that there was a previous clash between the participants in the fight, which would have been the origin of the actual quarrels. The participants in the violent quarrel dispersed after the arrival of the police, but they clashed again when they met in the streets of the town. Sources of the 112 confirmed to elmundo.es that the health services attended a number of people wounded by knife and with multiple contusions in the street. As a result of the clashes, three young men were taken to hospital. One of them, apparently not implicated in the fight, was seriously wounded at least six times with a knife. The victim, a Spaniard, had to undergo through emergency surgery and taken to intensive care as a result. Another Spanish young man was wounded by a knife three times, while a Colombian had to be attended by multiple contusions. The police has seized several weapons --a gun, knives and even a katana-- to some of the people who were involved in the fight, in which there were around 50 people involved according to witnesses. The police has reenforced their presence in the streets of this dormitory town of Madrid, as they fear that there might be further quarrels. The emergency services are in a situation of alert. Protesta violenta en Alcorcón tras la reyerta entre latinos y españoles El Mundo January 22, 2007 'Keep Out the Latin King', 'Let's go for them, let's kill them all', chanted the crowd 'This is the war of Alcorcón against the outsiders who come to invade us' There are new SMS messages calling for a gathering for the next weekend About 400 young people have been involved in the riots of this Sunday in the streets of the Madrid town of Alcorcón, in the same area where the day before there had been a massive quarrel between Spanish and South Americans which ended with four casualties, one of them seriously wounded after being knifed on six occasions on his back. The protesters, most of them very young, said that they were against the Latin-American gangs who, as admitted by the Security Director of this town, José García Archidona, could be behind the serious fight which took place on Saturday. However, the Delegate of the Government of Spain in Madrid, Soledad Mestre, said to a radio station that "we have no notice that there is any Latin gang" in Alcorcón, and that there had been no registered activity of Latin gangs in the last six months. With this statement, the Spanish Government considers the quarrel as an isolated case, although they assure that the presence of police will be "important and visible". "Apparently, during the night of Friday to Saturday there was a clash between two Dominicans and two Spanish", explained García Archidona. The day after, Saturday, "a group of young Spaniards met near to where one of the Dominicans lived, so we suppose that it was him who called his friends to start the fight. After the clash on Saturday, seven youngsters were detained by the police: three Dominicans, two Colombians, one Bolivian and one Ecuadorian, according to police sources. Six of them have declared to be underaged. Three people --three young men and a policeman-- were wounded on Saturday. Two of them --a Spaniard and a Colombian-- were taken to hospital due to the wounds by knife produced during the quarrel. The Director of Security has told that one of the two taken to hospital, a 27 years old [Spaniard], "was not involved in the fight". He stays under intensive care with a serious prognosis after being stabbed six times on his back, while another Spaniard was stabbed three times with a knife. A policeman was wounded with a stone on the head. Bins and containers set on fire On Sunday, the police identified and searched many of the people who gathered on a protest; only two were detained charged with "public rioting", but they were released soon afterwards, according to Europa Press. This second day of riots was organized through email and SMS messages to mobile phones. The appointment was set in a sports area in the José Aranda Avenue, between the night leisure area and the center of the town. Groups of young people ran through the streets throwing stones to by-passers and policemen. They changed the spots all the time to avoid the riot police, who according to witnesses shot rubber balls. After leaving the area, they walked to the main street and threw stones against the main façade of the Town Hall. These violent young men, some of which admitted that they were hunting for Latin King members, burnt containers and damaged a phone box and several bins, while they chanted 'Keep Out the Latin King', 'Let's go for them, let's kill them all' or 'This is the war of Alcorcón against the outsiders who come to invade us', according to EFE News Agency. Police expects more clashes Sources of the 112 said that they had received several phone calls from neighbours warning that they had seen people with baseball bats. The Red Cross had no news of any wounded, though they sent an ambulance as a preventive measure. Around the 22.00 hours, the Director of Security of Alcorcón sent the order to Civil Protection, SUMMA and Red Cross to dismantle their emergency mechanisms. However, and possibly due to the massive presence of policemen in the area, there was no fights between Spanish and South Americans like on Saturday. Only a few hours later after leaving the protest, messages to call for a new gathering were being sent to the mobile phones. Apparently, they want another "meeting" next Saturday. One of the messages said: "THEY INVADE US, THEY STEAL AND THEY KILL US. HOW LONG ARE YOU GOING TO TOLERATE THIS. UNITE AGAINST THAT HUMAN AND SOCIAL SCUM, LET US SHOW THEM THE ROAD BACK TO THEIR LANDS OR TO HELL. LET US MAKE THEM TREMBLE WITH FEAR, LET US MAKE THEM BOW THEIR HEADS, ALL THE SPANISH FURY SHALL FALL UPON THEM. UNITE AND THEY WILL LEAVE BEFORE THE NEXT WEEKEND. LET'S GO FOR THEM. TODAY IT WAS ONLY A WARNING. Pass the message." Original text: "NOS INVADEN, NOS ROBAN Y NOS MATAN.HASTA CUÁNDO ESTÁS DISPUESTO A TOLERARLO. ÚNETE KONTRA ESA ESCORIA HUMANA Y DE LA SOCIEDAD ENSEÑÉMOSLES EL CAMINO DE VUELTA A SU TIERRA O AL INFIERNO. K TIEMBLEN K AGACHEN LA CABEZA. TODA LA FURIA ESPAÑOLA CAERÁ SOBRE ELLOS. ÚNETE Y SE IRÁN ANTES. PRÓXIMO FINDE A POR ELLOS. HOY SÓLO ERA UN AVISO.pásalo" (sic). [source]

More news (in Spanish):
SOS Racismo criticises the media for giving the nationality of those involved in events like that of Alcorcón. They warn that the media may provoke the xenophobia. (January 22, 2007) The Spanish Government says that the detainees after the riots of Alcorcón do not belong to Latin or Ultra gangs. "Events like these happen [in Madrid] any night". The opposition party accuses the Government of "denying the reality". (January 22, 2007)

If things continue this way I fear we will soon have another "El Ejido", but this time with different people involved.
