I voted for Napoleon. I also admire many of these leaders (especially Charlemagne, Joan of Arc, Alexander the Great) but voting for them would insult Napoleon's military genius.
I will post a more detailed reply later.

I think this is an extremely hard question, I am going to have to think this one through carefully. First, it's really hard to compare ancient Generals to newer generals, and it's hard to compare guys like Caesar to Rommel. Caesar wasn't always a very smart man, but he changed the political spectrum of Rome, while Rommel, was just a very smart general who knew how to use terrain to his advantage.
Alexander was wise, but his arrogance was a downfall I believe. I am deffinately leaning towards Napoleon though.

Don't judge their political action, the poll is only about their military achievements.

I am aware, It's just difficult to compare some of them since they are better known for their actions outside the military world.

I agree.
I also add Zhukov on the Soviet side, and almost all III Reich's staff was made up of military genious. If it hadn't been for Hitler's idiotic and hesitant military decisions, Germany would have won the war in 1941. |

Gustav II Adolf, no question about it

It was multi-option! I didn't realize.
![]() I voted for Napoleon but I would have voted for Cortés and Pizarro too.
