According to Snorri, who claimed all the gods came from Troy and attempted (futily) to relate them to the characters in the battle of Troy.. At that time it was fashionable in literature to relate classical figures to one's own culture..

I guess so. The Gauls gave the same mythicql origin to their tribes, the Franks as well. However, had they been Troyans or whatever, I believe the Gods could have been old great heroes and warriors.

You guessed it right. Vikings were the founders, or at least the rulers of Kiev (not that far from the black sea) anyway. I don't see anything surprising in finding a woman with black sea roots in Viking's homeland.

True, as well as trying to relate to facts and figures of the Bible

This is not worth commenting on until we hear how they determined this. It could be as vague as a mitochondrial or Y chromosome haplogroup that merely has a greater frequency near the Black Sea (nowadays). It could have been done by determing what water the individual drank in their youth, and a probably match having been found in the water isotopes down in the Ukraine. It could be a cranial anthropology matter, but we all know the ifs and buts of that discipline.
Has anyone found anything more detailed on this yet?
