Amery and Cooper were tried for high treason alongside William Joyce (also known as "Lord Haw Haw") and Walter Purdy, and sentenced to death; however Cooper's and Purdy's sentences were commuted to life imprisonment. Cooper was released from prison in 1953, and lived in the Far East for a number of years. He returned to the UK in the 1970s and died in 1987. The rest were dealt with under military law: MacLardy was sentenced to life, reduced on appeal to 15; Cowie was sentenced to 15 years, but was released after seven; Wilson got ten years; and Berry, the first recruit, served nine months.

Interesting. All Russians who fought against USSR got much more serious sentences.

Being Britain at war with Germany, the question is if they were traitors to their country or not. Under normal circumstances, they would have been trialed for treason.

Nothing special since in Russia sentences were more serious to cruel most of the time.

I agree. That's why it's more fascinating. Many cossacks and their generals were executed even not being citizens of USSR (they left Russia after civil war).

Slightly offtopic.

Pannwitz surrendered on May 11, 1945 to British forces. He and his troops were subsequently handed over to Soviet forces, which is often referred to as The Betrayal of Cossacks at Lientz. Most of them perished either at the hands of the Soviet SMERSH, or committed suicide to avoid being repatriated. As Pannwitz was a German national, he was told by the British that he was not subject to repatriation to the SMERSH. Nonetheless, Pannwitz insisted that he share the fate of his men and his fellow commanders, giving himself up voluntarily to Soviet prosecution.

Von Pannwitz was executed on January 16, 1947 having been convicted by a Soviet court of spying as well as subversive and terrorist acts against the Soviet Union.
