the location of the "Führerhauptquartier" or only an abandoned construction site?

While looking through our picture archives, we found some pictures taken in Jonastal in 1992 which we like to publish here. Allmost all tunnels had been open at this time. After the searching for 2 hidden trucks in tunnel 16 on October 21, 1992, the governement decided to close the entrances. Of course, they will never remain closed for a long time, because too many people are interested in visiting and exploring them, often even using better tools. Here only some of the many pictures of our exploration.

"S lll" and "Olga", underground armament production, V2 - rockets from Nordhausen, "Jäger-Program", "Geilenberg-Program", "Emergency-Program", the constructions of Dr. Kammler, "Führerhauptquartier", "Sonderelbe" Jasmin, top secret: the central commands of Ohrdruf and Arnstadt, preparations, eyewitnesses remember.

Only a very limited number of documents about S III or "Olga" do exist. "S III" was the code namen for the construction site, "Olga" was the code name for the "Führerhauptquartier" and also for Ohrdruf. A big part of the documents had been destroyed during the last days of the "third reich" in Ohrdruf, Crawinkel and Berlin.

It is strange that "S III" and "Olga" remained unknown even after the war. Maybe because the Sovjet Army took possesion of the property in 1945 and used it to exercise. Even at the scientific institute of the German military, "S III" was not known until autumn 1991, even if the preface of the history of the property is already exciting.

After the defeat in Stalingrad 1942/43 Germany had lost its strategic initiative in World War II. When "Reichspropagandachef" Joseph Goebbels held his famous speach to the people on February 18, 1943 he said that winning this "holy" war would be only a question of will and trust and when he called to the people: "Do you want the total war?", the crowds were screaming "yes". Goebbels also talked about secret weapons which could bring a fast decision, but the Führer wanted to use them when the time comes. These wonder weapons really existed already or had been under development but Goebbels was not the right person to determine their military use. Amongst them was the first fighter jet (Düsenjäger) Me 262 and the rocket A 4 and even the atomic bomb was beginning to develope. The work on the rocket, also known as "V2" started in 1932 and went into mass production in the beginning of 1943.
