Well, you are not going to like this, but many here will surely recall that I've argued it times before now, in the light of the lies dumped by the BNP supported "white-history" pamphlet. There is much truth in this:
Quote:
The implications of this are of a magnitude greater than many would like it to be. Where Phillips argues that "the Turks saved us [English]", it should read in all honesty that "the plots of England against Spain and in favour of the Turk, could have had as a consequence the fall of Europe to the Muslim Ottomans, had the Spanish failed to stop them". I know that this is bitter to swallow, and hard to admit for the English. But it is about time for the English (especially for those who are nationalists) to be honest and admit the terrible errors committed by England. Centuries of difamations, fallacies and lies against the Nation that gave more than any other nation has ever given, Spain, must end at once and the truth must shine. The concealed continued attacks into this direction, orchestrated by the British National Party are a shame that no one, less so no English, should support nor tolerate. If the English don't do it to honour the truth, at least they should do it to reject the shame falling upon them. The BNP and its entire leadership should be reviled by any English with a sense of decency. In the last decades, a few leading English academic historians have done some research and published works which deauthorize the difamation of the large Black Legend spread by the Jews in connivance with the Anglo-Dutch against Spain.

Mynydd - I don't for one minute refute the role of the Turks in the Amarda. I am not ashamed of this fact and I have no wish to sweep it under the carpet. Doing this is like the english saying that we 'won' the second world war single-handed without the involvement of the americans, russians and others! The truth is there if one chooses to look for it. What I do object to is that I think Philips is attemting to 'overplay' muslims' role in english history to force it to become politically correct. We also have a written constituation - the Magna Carta and the 1689 Bill of Rights.
I do not support the BNP for many reasons, but the simplist one being that they are for the union of the UK and I'd like an independent England.

Unfortunately the truth often is out there but it is also hidden and twisted to serve obscure interests. But fair enough, let us leave that apart for now. The reading that Phillips does of the events is certainly not one that gives me any pleasure, if only for the English who are decent and honest nationalists such as yourself. It would have been much more preferable that that and other events had come to light under more normal circumstances and for the right reasons.
To pretend that the liaisons between England and the Ottoman Empire an their consequences whatever they were, is a reason to give Muslims a right over England is clearly moronic to say the least. Not something that I would give my support nor my indulgence, even in this particular case. To Errigal's comment, there is little more that I can say that I have not said through these years. Except, perhaps, that I'm proud of the dignity with which the Spanish have endured the hundreds of years of difamation through the Black Legend, inspite of the painful consequences, especially when I compare to how others bear their own black legend, be theirs a real one or not.

It it a very little known fact that England asked for and received Turkish assistance in defeating the Spanish Armada in 1588. The Brits are planning to rewrite history to reflect these facts in their history books.
'Rewrite British history to reflect other cultures' Parts of British history need to be rewritten to emphasise the roles played by other races and religions like Muslims, a prominent race relations campaigner has said. Trevor Philips, the chairman of the new Commission for Equalities and Human Rights, said the history of Britain did not properly reflect the contribution of other cultures. Rewriting the country’s history would demonstrate to Britons in the 21st century how other groups apart from Anglo Saxons shaped the nation. He told a fringe meeting at the Labour conference: "We may need to revisit our national story – we want to rewrite that story to tell the whole story."The rewriting should start with the story of how the English fleet led by Sir Francis Drake fought off the Spanish Armada in 1588, he said. The important role played by the Muslim Turks, who delayed the sailing of the Spanish fleet so that the English ships were better prepared, had been airbrushed out of the story however. Mr Phillips said: "When we talk about the Armada, it was the Turks who saved us because they held up the Armada after a request from Elizabeth I. "Let’s rewrite that, so we have an ideal that brings us together so that it can bind us together in stormy times ahead in the next century." Mr Phillips, the former chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality, declined to offer any other examples of parts of British history that should be rewritten. He also said that he supported a campaign by the musician Billy Bragg for a new written constitution to define what it means to be British in the 21st century. "We have to have an expression that is native and right for us," he said. "We have to have a more explicit set of understandings under which we can all live together." Mr Phillips, who was educated at Queen’s College Boys School in Guyana, also suggested that there should be a set celebration for when people were given British nationality. Nationality lessons were necessary because people were moving around the country more than ever before, providing less opportunities to integrate. Last year 6.5 million people moved house, he said. Earlier this week Mr Phillips said that economic migrants could be forced to make a bigger contribution to the cost of public services. Mr Phillips said that some migrants who stay in the UK only for a short time should pay more for the use of schools and hospitals. \'Rewrite British history to reflect other cultures\' - Telegraph
