The main board language is english.
Further I think that all public available postings should be in a language understandable to all, and that is english. I am not against latin languages, but most northern Europeans does not understand much of none. When I log on, and find mostly posts in languages I do not understand, I simply log off. And I am sure I am not the only one. The same reaction are to german, fine for germans, but not interesting for me and many others, we simply move on. Use of other languages than english does not communicate with all here. The latin influence is more than strong here, compared to what is from the rest of Europe. As a northerner, it makes me feel as a passenger, a welcomed passenger, but still a passenger at a latin vessel. A great vessel, anyway.. ![]() I could of course start posting heavy in Norwegian, to demonstrate how you would react on massive postings in not understandable languages?.. But waste of time, so I do not. Postings in any not readable languages for all, tend to drive away people that does not understand them.A solution could be that all nonenglish posting were posted in closed forums, only available to those that selected such subgroup membership. To you that understand the languages, it is no problem, perhaps the problem for non-latin speaking members are not even recognized as a problem by latin languages speaking members. The same goes with german. May have something to do with Stirpes growth? The suggestion is All public available postings should as a rule be in english, understandable to all. I like to read others opinion on this, specially those that does not speak or read any latin languages. In english, please... ![]() Please do not misunderstand, I do not complain.... Stirpes is a great forum! Last edited by Savage; Monday, August 21st, 2006 at 10:59. |

The alternative languages subgroups could be ordered in a directory; "Postings in Latin, Slavic, Germanic etc." with subgroups, all claiming subscription to the actual subforum to see them.; Latin languages: Subgroups, Spanish, Italian, etc.etc. Slavic languages: with the proper subgroups Germanic languages: with a subgroup Nordic languages Other European languages: Languages not of the above mentioned groups, Finnish, Hungarian, Walisian?, etc. Last edited by Savage; Monday, August 21st, 2006 at 10:51. |

Thorehund,
As you stated, it is correct, there is several "Latin" members in this forum, specially from the Iberian penninsula. A lot of the individuals who come here, do not understand English as fluently as you might do, and there is some "language barriers" sometimes and it stops some languages from being expressed the same way as well. You can post in heavy Norwegian if you desire, it's just that I don't think there is many Norwegian members here besides for you ![]()
