These flag requests wouldn't be much appreciated by the Castilian patriots of Hispanismo.org... they all consider the regions of Cantabria and La Rioja as administrative constructions which should be reunited with Castile again (a Castile separated from Leon, by the way).

I agree, but I think (later I will ask some Castilian for confirmation) that the historical flag of Castile has a crimson field, the purple one is most probably the flag of the Comuneros (Commoners).

Cantabria had an identity of its own even before Castilla existed. However, it is true that the old Cantabria was a territory larger than modern Cantabria, which included lands which today are historically Castilla.

A different matter is that they belong to the sphere of influence of Castille.

Catalans too claim that the old kingdoms of Valencia and Mallorca (Balearic Islands) are Catalan and should reunite in a Greater Catalonia. But again, in a similar fashion as with Castille and Cantabria and La Rioja, while it is true that both belong to the sphere of influence of Catalonia, they have an identity and a history of their own.

The original flag of Castilla was not red as you suggested to me earlier. It probably wasn't purple either but of an intermediate colour.

As for the Comuneros, they were Castillian Patriots who had a strong sense of identity. Never mind what the leftists want to portray of them.

I don't deny that, and for me it even sounds strange to call "Castilian" a Cantabrian (not in the case of a Riojan, though), but I wasn't going to write a manifesto in favour of the anexion of Vascongadas to Castile either (yeah, that's the most extreme I have seen so far), nor I'm willing to do it, I just heard some opinions about the cases of Cantabria and La Rioja and they were quite solid for the delicate subject it is. Anyway, I'm still too green to even try to start a discussion about the issue of the integrity of Castile, so if no Castilian wants to join this thread... Mynydd... this comparison is weak and you know it. Valencia and Mallorca could never reunite with Catalonia because they have never been united (just "united" under the Crown of Aragon, but each kingdom -or principality if we refer to Catalonia- maintained its borders and sovereignty), while Cantabria and La Rioja have been integral parts of Castile until the very 1981 (the same year the monster of the Community of Madrid was created, also in detriment of Castile). So well, they are not so comparable cases I think...

That's right. They are a sad invention... and a clear offense to Catholic Spain. But not just their flags, both regions are sad inventions too. Andalusia should be divided into Seville, Jaen, Cordova, Granada and Algeciras, while Extremadura should be annexed to Toledo (or rather Leon...?).

I think you should use WhiteRuthenian's Belarus flag, the current one does look a bit wrong...the lower white field seems smaller.
