What is ad hominem?
The form ad hominem Latin expression commonly used in many modern languages as a shortened version of argumentum ad hominem, which means literally "an argument at the man". Notice that "man" here does not mean male, but a human, a person or an individual. Ad hominem is understood as an attack or an insult against the person. It is the inflected form of the singular accusative of homo, hominis. The plural form is ad homines.

What is ad gentem?
The form ad gentem is not known to be used in modern languages. It came as a need in a discussion board of Nordicist orientation (though allegedly pro-European) at a time when personal attacks or insults (ad hominem) in discussions were penalized, although these were often in retaliation to attacks or insults against identifiable nations or ethnic groups. It follows after the logics of argumentum ad hominem for its syntactic construction. An argumentum ad gentem means literally "an argument at the people, nation, race of peoples". Ad gentem is understood as an attack or an insult against a nation or ethnic group. It is the inflected form of the singular accusative of gens, gentis. The plural form is ad gentes.

What is an argumentum ad populum?
An argumentum ad populum is a logical fallacy that concludes that an argument is true because many people believe it to be true. It means literally "an argument at the public, the people". It is the inflected form of the singular accusative of populus, populi. This expression does not admit a plural form.
