Stirpes Blogs
Months ago I installed a beta software that integrated a blogging system in vbulletin. Just like we have the forums software running on a subdomain [b]forum[/b].stirpes.net I wanted to have the blogs software running on a subdomain [b]blogs[/b].stirpes.net.
However, being integrated with the forums software the blogs software defaulted to the subdomain of the forums, which it apparently saw as the domain. Therefore, instead of having blogs.stirpes.net/[i]username[/i] for a blog for user username, we would have had forum.stirpes.net/blogs/[i]username[/i], which is in my opinion too long. I did many attempts to force the blogs subdomain, tweaking a few things here and there. And screwing a few things here and there.. Anyway, I might give it another try if our regular senior members are interested in having a blog on Stirpes. I doubt that using a blogs subdomain will be possible, but I would try again. p.s. blogs should be given per Staff decision, based on some requirements and subject to rules of allowed content. Being a senior member does not automatically qualify for having a blog, nor should it be a requirement. Vote now!

There is the blog of Dienekes, which is of great value, but concentrates more on genetic studies and very recent anthropological detail studies, rather than typologies and characterisation of the physical characteristics of populations. And of course, its almost exclusively based on English sources.

At this point my excuse for not having installed a blogs system yet is that vbulletin recently released a blogs software integrated with the forums software. This is vbulletin's own blogs, not vblogs of which I wrote before and which is developed by other people.
The problem is that it is at an early stage of its development and, despite it being integrated, it doesn't offer some features of integration in which I would be interested. Besides that, it doesn't look very attractive and yet it requires a US$50 licence (the first year, then a US$30 licence upgrade per year). This is in my opinion a little abusing considering that there are many better, excellent blog systems software available for free, and that vbulletin's licence for the forums already costs US$160 for an Owned Licence (first year, then US$30 each yearly upgrade) or US$85/year for a Leased Licence. In my not so humblest opinion, the blogs should come as a sub-system of the forums at no extra price, as a part of the expected improvement of the software. So at present I'm doing some testing with a CMS (Content Management System) to see if it could provide a good alternative option.

What’s so cool about Stirpes blogs? Surely if one has something interesting to say he does not need to wait for a Stirpes blog, a blog can be created instantaneously anywhere and it will still do the main function.
