Many people do not consider Vasilyev's paintings to be serious & academic.
That's why there is so little information about him in English internet. He did not achieve any academic recognition and lived very shord life. After his last painting:

he said: "Now I know how to draw". Several days later he died in accident (or maybe was murdered).
