Smile Bavarians Please!

I am still undecided where to go on holiday this year. The top 2 candidates are North Italy (and Rome) and Bavaria. Now, about Italy I know enough but I cannot say the same about Bavaria.

Any help?

Why, of course, couldn't disagree

Here you have a few links with various stuff about Bavaria. Of course you can do a Google search and find what you specifically are interested in.

Bavaria is one of the few places in the world where one can see people who are as wide as they are tall -- who wouldn't want to see that?

Not likely. America is more characterized by extreme wide arses standing out of all proportionality.

This inspired me to a new thread.

When you are in Bavaria, stop by the Swabian portion (that is in the west of the state). Or skip Bavaria and go straight to Württemberg (forget Baden)! Check out Ulm or go down by my region near Ravensburg, or go visit Friedrichshafen on the Bodensee (english: Lake Constance). (I have family that lives between the two latter cities)

Ravensburg is a good place to visit, at least in my opinion. It is a pretty town, that was a medieval commercial centre. It depends when you are planning your vacation. In July 22-26, they have the Rutenfest which is a pretty historical festival. Or in October, they have they have the Oberschwabenschau (Upper-Swabia Fair/Exhibition). Those are the two events I like the most in Ravensburg.

Since you are in Malta, I guess you know Italian, here is Ravensburg online in Italian http://www.ravensburg.de/3587.htm (click english if you prefer that).

If I knew when you were planning you vaction I could recommend more precise sites and festivals in certain areas to visit. Oh well, my attempt to get you to visit Oberschwaben may fail. Spend your money in there, not in Bavaria.

Look at this, it shows the city layout in 1623
It is called the "City of Towers and Gates." On this map, click the blue buildings for info (its in german) and pictures of them today. Most are Towers or Churches, but has others like the old threatre. I love medieval cities.

Thanks for the help Timo.

If we decide to come to Germany it will be in the first 2 weeks of June probably.

Any reason why I should not spend my money in Bavaria but in Oberschwaben? Is it cheaper? Nicer?

Well it is my region!! Spend your money here so it goes in local economy. I am so selfish.

Bavaria is very nice also. I just am representing my area, just some regionalism coming through. Prices should be the same, I think. Unless Bavaria implemented a Maltese tax. j/k

You can go see Neuschwanstein in Bavaria, it is real nice. If this is a once in a life-time visit to Germany, I would go to see that beautiful place. All kidding aside. (Incase you don't know that's the castle they were posting up before)
Anyway, there are plenty of good places to go to in any German State, many festivals and so-on. Even if you miss the fests, there are year-round attractions which are the tourist attractions, like the palaces, castles, old town areas, museums, etc.
Let me know if you are deciding on Germany instead of Italy. If so, I will be glad to look up some sites for you to see and check out if they got local attractions in June. It'll be no problem.
