Kosovo’s independence declared shows West’s dislike of Slavs - ROCOR

Moscow, February 22, Interfax – The Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia believes the unilateral declaration of Kosovo’s independence shows that Western world fears Slavonic peoples.

“Unfortunately, the West doesn’t understand Russians and Slavdom and it isn’t a friend of the Slavs,” administrator of the ROCOR Chicago Diocese Bishop Peter of Cleveland said at a meeting with students of St.Tikhon’s Orthodox University in Moscow.

He stressed he stuck to this conviction even though he was born in America to a Russian family and loved his Motherland.

‘The West feels its spiritual bankruptcy before Slavs and is afraid of the Slavonic unity,” Bishop Peter said.

Head of Russian Church slams Kosovo independence

Moscow, February 20, Interfax - Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia has slammed Kosovo's unilaterally declared independence.

Kosovo's independence, declared on Sunday, "is an anti-historic event that upsets the global balance and that may lead to very tragic events in a whole series of spots on the globe where separatist sentiments are being fanned," Alexy said answering questions from journalists in Moscow on Wednesday.

Alexy II cited himself as saying in a speech at the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly in October 2007 that advocates of independence for Kosovo were "people who had never been to Kosovo, didn't know the history of that land, and didn't know what Kosovo means to the Serbs."

The Battle of Kosovo in June 1389 was "a battle for the existence of the Serb people," the patriarch said. He mentioned that the battle took place nine years after the Battle of Kulikovo, which ended Tatar-Mongol rule in Russia.

Alexy II also said that a tremendous number of Orthodox churches and monasteries in Kosovo that are "a part of general European heritage" and are under UNESCO patronage "were and are being destroyed."

And clearly shows West's love for Albanians...if Serbia's government had been smart in negotiating, they would have gotten Serbian/Christian Orthodox enclaves resp. exclaves within Kosovo at least, now they lost everything. I am not saying I like EU/US/NATO's meddling there, but I cannot verify why Serbs don't accept their defeat and start to think about how it came this way.

Some Patriarch needs to do some history lessons, Serbs and Albanians were defeated by the Ottomans...

It only shows West's love for it's own interest and how they're able to destroy anything in their path. It has nothing to do with Slavs or Albanians. Do you honestly thinks America cares about Albanians and their freedom?

I think the same thing.

The American and EU policy on Kosovo is about smacking down Serbia, or any other independent nation-state. They are using the Kosovar Albanians as a tool and nothing more.

I think that there is an element of the western liberal-capitalist establishment that sees the national unity of the Serbs as a threat.

A social-democratic politican said it plain and simple: Serbs and Kosovo-Albanians should not fight over some borders, soon both Serbia and Kosovo are members of EU and this means open borders anyway.
Kosovo's independence surely was not pushed to create an independent country, it was a "divide et impera" operation...

I agree with you two here.

They're creating division and somehow support conflicts in Balkan, but in the same time they are the peace-makers who keep different ethnic groups apart. They create this tensions all the time so they can keep their asses in Balkan under the mask of peace-keepers, but in reality they care about their own interests which is creating a connection between EU and Turkey trough some puppet states.

It's the game between the big ones and modern imperialisms and it's always the small (or smaller) nations' interests that suffer.

As for this "Slavic" thing, Russia (by that I mean their politics not nation of course) doesn't care much about Serbia and "Slavdom", but about their own interests too. Once again they use "Slavic brotherhood" as a mask for their imperialistic ideas.

Hardly. During the negotiations the west was against any kind of partition. Not only that but the Albanians would not of accepted partition.

The west during the entire negotiating process ruled out an exhcange of territory, Serb enclaves for the 2 Albanian municipalities in Serbia.

Partition is only likely to occur now since the negotiations have failed.

Probably, linking Turkey and EU together is subordinated to the goal of expanding United States American presence in Europe, and in Asia, partly through Europe and partly by other routes. European nations are only being used as markers on the board, I think, and the same goes for Turkey.

The wests decision has nothing to do with Slavs, it has everything to do with the following:
- The west has since 2000 had troubles getting Serbia to do what it wants. The U.S. believes that by severing Kosovo from Serbia, Serbia will give into the west but the exact opposite of what the west wants will happen.
- The west wants to appreas Muslims by creating the image of look we care for Muslims and help Muslims look at Kosovo. This again is an idiotic assumption by EU powers and the U.S., because such attempts failed in Bosnia, failed in Kosovo in 1999 and lastly in many countries like Iran the media is reporting Kosovo is viewed as a ploy by Americans to use Muslims for their imperial interests -- which it is.
- Their is also the AMBO pipeline meant to go from Bulgaria to Albania. This pipeline has been planned by the U.S. government since 1993. In 1999, it was the primary reason for the bombing since so-long as Kosovo was unstable it wouldn't have been built. Now the independence was rushed because the pipelines construction has yet to begin and because Serbia has agreed to Russian pipelines.

It's also about gas, CZ mentioned the pipeline already. EU doesn't want to depend only on Russian gas, Turkey has a lot of gas..
