Re: NATO chief calls for military tie-ups with EU
It is amazing how NATO survived the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Iron Curtain, without anyone really knowing who is the enemy it is supposed to be fighting against, once that the so-called Red Menace (upheld by the Western loans in the time of its existance, by the way) evaporated into the thin air. The reds are now well incorporated into the power structeres of the "West". A synthesis came about and not the defeat of Communism, as some naives say.
As for EU, it is clear that this organization is very much connected with NATO. Both of these supra-national organizations having their headquarters in the same city is maybe not a mere coincidence. All the Eastern European countries which entered NATO, entered EU almost simultaneously. Their policy in the Balkans and in the former Soviet Union is identical. Although some heavy-weights of the EU seemingly opposed such American adventures as the Iraq War, it remains the fact that many members of the EU have their troops there and, let us not forget, in Afghanistan as well. The Orwellian rhetoric of the leaders of these two organizations is pretty much the same.
If the formation of the totalitarian EU superstate succeeds - and notable efforts have been directed into the completion of that aim in the last year(s) - an all too logical next step to take would be the fusion of these two monsters, with possible addition of British Dominions (Canada, Australia, New Zealand), into a new and wonderful Soviet Union, where sun never sets.
