A comment I received from an Anglo-Canadian about the Portuguese...

He went on to say:

"They (the Portuguese) are a joke to the rest of Europe having no military, technological, economic or any other achievements to speak of.
It would probably be better if Portugal just broke off of Europe and joined Africa, considering they at one point attempted to claim Africa as their territory...which failed as well."

I was too livid to form a reasonable response. Is this how we are truly viewed by fellow Europeans? Contributors of nothing?

First, let me point out the error..Anglo-Canadians are not Europeans. Unless I am missing something.

To be honest, tell the man to read a history book. Look around this forum for historical examples of achievements of Portugese individuals. You are not the first one to feel this, I have seen several comments being made by anglos about many different Europeans and groups of people in general.

There is a real problem in North American culture right now in which it is acceptable to attack certain types of foreigners. People feel they cannot say anything about the many other ethnic groups who live in the same city as them so they take out their frustrations on countries far away. It is one of the reasons many Americans say such bad things about the French. they want to insult the Mexicans and Blacks at work but know they'll get fired so they take it out on France. This Canadian is likely doing the same thing.

It is really sad. I have spoken to people who say this has gotten much worse in the last few years. I have a relative who worked with NATO who says he remembers everyone (Americans and British included) speaking about other nationalities with much more respect, even in private conversations.

North American culture is built on making fun of each other and our European ancestors (and the Quebecois [damned laptop keyboard can't do accents!]). They usually make fun of European groups (Italians, French, British (i.e. Wales, England, Scotland, and Ireland... I really hate having to type this out every time so for future reference whenever I say Britain I refer to the region of the British Isles not the "United Kingdom")... etc.)...

They take a cliche or stereotype and stretch it to an extreme. They are incredibly ignorant of what the truth really is...

I've never really seen Canadians do this so much (we direct our attentions at the Quebecois ... and the Newfies )

The best replacement for typing out all the nationalities of the two islands of Great Britain and Ireland would be to type "GB and I" or "GB&I". That's what I'll do from now on.

Actually, all Europeans are friendly in general. All Finns I've met were very friendly and polite.

As for non-Europeans, I can say that Caucasians are agressive and non-friendly in general. Unlike Europeans, where only minority are agressive, the majority of Caucasians are agressive. I hate their behaviour.

Well, I suppose that if the British National Party has a well-known member of the party (in fact as well-known as being the picture of the public campaign can get you) as a long standing Staff member of Stormfront and one who has financed largely Stormfront, it is because there exists a relation.
