Re: biological race is a fiction
I find it odd that the people who forward the race is a construct argument always use race or euphemistic tags for race when arguing that race does not really exist. The writer herself is writing for the interracial voice. Why is that? Races do not exist. So who is interracial? One of the points used by the race is a construct people is the fact that mixed race people exist and that these people get lumped with the darker or non caucasian race. So! Mixed race people have always existed where races live close to each other. I doubt there were any negro mixed Vietnamese before the Vietnam war. Or any, half Japanese half caucasians before WW2. The fact human races are human and can interbreed does not alter the fact the races exist. And it is not the fault of governments if census forms do not cater for mixed race people.
In the USA with the negro Americans, often race is a construct as many American negroes are less negro in race than Europid. Instead of being separate, the intermixed individuals are incorporated into the negro community. In Australia the Aboriginal community have made being Aboriginal based on having some long lost Aboriginal ancestor. So there are Aborigines who look like their ancestors did before European settlement, Aborigines who are very mixed with East Asian, European, South Asian, Melanesian, Polynesian and so on, and Aborigines who look like Europeans. Aborigines have made their race into a concept without any cultural, linguistic or little racial ties to the pre European Aborigines. That being said, there is an Australian aboriginal race even if you have to find it in the ethnology section of a museum. It is often said that in South America, the race of wealthy people is changed to being Europid whatever they look like. Now that bastardisation of race is a construct and though illogical does not destroy the fact that Europids, negroes, Amerindians, mongolians and other races exist even if the population of varioius countries is becoming mixed racially. The fact that polluted water exists does not mean that clouds, water vapour, rain, lakes, streams and rivers do not exist.
