Makes one wonder.. ever tasted real bread out of a baker's oven?

The bakery I go to on a small village nearby, I even get to ask them to get rye or corn flour from time to time to have a bread other than wheat's.

From time to time I go to an Episcopalian church for freshly baked bread. There are monks there who do the baking; it's truly wonderful bread. You can have cinnamon raisin, white bread or wheat. They don't charge and you go on the "honor system" of leaving donations of various amounts. However, I always leave money. It's the right thing to do.

I have to admit though, I try not to eat too many starches.

Nothing comparable with French bread. Smart Americans love our "Baguette".

I'm not fond of baguette (barra de a cuarto) style bread. The crust is not half as nice as traditional bread, and the spoungy inside is funny. (sorry, I had to tell it ).

Nice breads..

Other breads I like are rye bread and corn flour bread. Corn flour bread I had it for the first time in Galicia, with sardines which we roasted over a camp fire in the beach. Simple, but hard to beat.

One way to make bread an even better companion, is Catalan-style bread, pa amb tomàquet (bread with tomato). As easy as toasting a slice of bread, slightly rubbing a garlic clove on it, brush it with a ripe tomato, and topped with a bit of olive oil, preferably virgin.

If you can get Spanish Serrano ham to topple it, then you'll get an unbeatable meal: pa amb tomaquet i pernil.

Bon profit!

P.S. time to move these posts to the food, drinks & diets forum.

Mmmmm.... Iberian food. Among the very best in the world! Now you've made me get out my Spanish and Portuguese cookbook...

Yeah, I learned that... You've to go to your closest French Bakery to find the best croissants.

Alright. I trust your word for it, that keeping the bread under the armpit gives it a "delicate" flavour. Especially in the hot summer. Just not my kind of thing.

I'll give you that coffee in Spain sucks. However, I'm still in a winning position because the best coffees that I've ever tried have been in Portugal.

What? You also stole the croissants from another country?

Hmm, you never put your foot in a traditional French Bakery, have you? It smells "le bon pain" (good bread) and has the tang of the soil.

Your chocolate is not that bad though. I'm not an amateur of cofee generally but I like cream coffee (?) and italian coffee like mokacino (Yeah, I'm refined ). Portugueses drink their coffee in a funny cup very deep and high but I never tried it, I should one day.

You should know the whole story, eating croissant is an act of resistance. Turkish guys hate croissants.

Thank you. Needs to be. According to some we spend half of the day eating:

Early morning: desayuno (breakfast, very light)
10-11 am: almuerzo (brunch)
1 pm: aperitivo (appetizer, a small tapa with a wine, helps to awake your hunger)
2 pm: comida (lunch, main meal; 2 courses + dessert; 3 courses in the good old days)
5-6 pm: merienda (who wants tea when you can eat some nice tapa with a wine?)
10-11 pm: cena (dinner, lighter than lunch, but still 2 courses + dessert)

In some areas (here) there is also something called resopón (from Catalan sopar, dinning). On a especial night out after drinks, at around 3-5 am.

Of course all the above is not followed on an average ordinary day. But you reminded me of a cookbook on Spanish cuisine (in English), where the author suggested that we did. Oh well..
