I may be biased because I'm a northern hick and not much of a culinarist (food is a mean of filling your stomach), but the best food I've ever eaten was sauerkraut and bratwurst in an old Bavarian beer hall. Different kinds of real, meaty sausages (not like that industrial crap we have here), different kinds of brötchen, sauerkraut, weissbier..

Italian foods are classics. Traditional Slovenian food was also very nice.

I like a good Andouille from Guéméné (Brittany).

I've heard that there is something in Sicily or in Calabria, which also has a similar name: anduglia or something like that.

edit: the Italian name of anduglia is correct, but it is said to derive from the French andouille and it is made in Campania. It is curious because an Italian friend always insists in that it is like the sobrasada from Majorca (and Valencia), which is not make with the budels but with pork meat and lean, sweet and hot pimenton, and then fermented and dry cured..

I absolutely love Italian food, but German food surpasses all.

I eat my sauerkraut un-cooked. Hah.

My favourite: Italian food.
But every European country has it's own attractive dishes e.g. Sauerbraten from Germany.

I bet theres an extraordinary amount of delicious European food I havent tasted. But I can say with certainty that I love Danish food, whether it be traditional or newer. I havent tried much German food, but to be honest all those sausages disgust me. Well, I like sausage, just not too much. I love many different salamis and "spegepølse", which I guess is the Danish word for it. Also I love Italian and Greek food, like almost everyone else.

Come to think of it, I actually have tried some German food, when I was in the Heidelberg area of Southern Germany where I have some ancestry (very beautiful and cultured area, btw). Tasted very good, but I dont remember exactly what I got, many years ago now.

Same thing here, the lands of my ancestry are charcuterie (I guess they use this gallicism) lands. As so, I practice the saucisson religion.

Cows are just good to produce milk, so we can make good cheese. I still appreciate a good charolais meat though, from time to time.

By the way ... Talking about statistics and international prizes (nothing to do with REAL food, but as a curiosity...)

A spanish cook, Ferran Adriá, has been awarded as the best one in the world for the last three years.

The best restaurants in the world:
  1. The Fat Duck, Bray, Berkshire, Britain
  2. El Bulli, Montjoi, Spain
  3. French Laundry, California
  4. Tetsuya’s, Sydney, Australia
  5. Gordon Ramsay, London, Britain
  6. Pierre Gagnaire, Paris, France
  7. Per Se, New York, New York
  8. Tom Aikens, London, Britain
  9. Jean Georges, New York, New York
  10. St John, London, Britain
  11. Michel Bras, Laguiole, France
  12. Louis XV, Monaco
  13. Chez Panisse, California
  14. Charlie Trotter, Chicago, Illinois
  15. Gramercy Tavern, New York, New York
  16. Guy Savoy, Paris, France
  17. Alain Ducasse, Paris, France
  18. Sketch (Gallery), London, Britain
  19. The Waterside Inn, Bray, Britain
  20. Nobu, London, Britain
  21. Arzak, San Sebastian, Spain
  22. El Raco de can Fabes, Spain
  23. Checcino dal 1887, Rome, Italy
  24. Le Meurice, Paris, France
  25. L’Hotel de Ville, Crissier, Switzerland
  26. Arpege, Paris, France
  27. The Connaught, London, Britain
  28. Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, Oxford, Britain
  29. Le Cinq, Paris, France
  30. Hakkasan, London, Britain
  31. Cal Pep, Barcelona, Spain
And they say the countries always fighting one-another to get that international prestige are:
France- USA? - Italy and Spain
which is basically mediterranean cooking

I just got given a nice bowl of Schi by my girlfriend's Mamochka, and slabs of pork with a very nice mushroom salad, so I'm voting Russian.

I do love a bit of Gulash though, so additional congratulations to the Magyars! The dumplings in a Czech themed place in town are lovely too, so the Czechs can have an honourable mention too. I like proper stodgy food.

The English can't be beaten for pies and sausages though! Or cakes...
