no apologies necessary, and Ederico, stop nitpicking.

p.s. this is a pre-emptive move really since i just posted the numbers 1 - 10 in maltese on another thread, and i'm sure there's some spelling mistakes there too

LOL, Yankee Lover.

@Graeme & Etoile Noir

I was only correcting Graeme for his own sake. And now I notice that I wrote "Bragioli" in Italian phoneticism without willing to........

Lunch time approaches.....

By the way, I forgot to say how much I started to love Vino Rosso, I discovered the beauty of the Italian Valpolicella type, delicious. I have to taste more wines however.

Most other flavours are alright but I had to re-educate my palate.

I only tolerate coffee with milk or with flambé alcohol.

For the liver haters, I suspect that you people have never tried a good pâté de foie gras. Out of this world!

My suggestion would be a wine made from the grape variety Merlot. We have some excellent merlots here from the area of Somontano, and since they are not [yet] as well known as the wines from Rioja, Ribera del Duero, etc, they price is still good in comparison.

Italians do have some good white wines, but in my opinion they fail much in red wines.

I don't understand wine-lovering. I just don't get the appeal of wine or champagne. My mum drinks a glass a night. I have some beers. What am I not getting?

BTW, anyone got a good Vodka mix?

What's wrong with wine? It goes well with food, it's good for my apetite. Vodka, gin and other type of hard spirits... I am not a fan of them. Perhaps because I don't usually drink to get drunk, among others.

i'm not a wino myself, however i have a vast collection of wines which i store in my 450 year old house. don't ask why .... by now you should all know that i'm wierd!

my point is - red wine ... has anyone ever tried the south african varieties? they haven't quite yet reached grand cru status, but they make fine red wines. you normally tell them from the rubber stoppers, as opposed to cork.

oh, and the italians also have some excellent red barolo

enjoy the vino people, i just keep the bottles and invite guests to sample to their heart's content when they visit

Yeah, put it in the freezer, wait until it reaches the consistency of oil, and drink it 50-75 ml at a time, straight. Get some good Polish or German herring, from a delicatessen, along with some good kielbasa, and only then drink vodka. Do not drink vodka fast, drink while eating (not big elaborate meals ot anything), never on an empty stomach, and never alone.

The only vodka mix I like is Zubrowka with real apple juice.

I don't have the tastes for it, I guess. I have always had a beer with meals, if it is an alcoholic drink. You like wine better than beer? Do your drink beer with meals?

If you don't intend to get drunk, just know your limit of drinks. Mix the drink with something that taste good (i like citrus, like lemon or lime with club soda) and it goes down good. I like them but rarely get to have them. It is easier to reach in refrigurator and grab a beer than it is to mix a drink.

I usually do, but then there are times when I just have a beer and nothing else.

Yea, then there is buying ingridents and keeping them on stock. I know people who set up mini-bars in their kitchens. I am not like that. I can't have that clutter. Anyway, a hard drink sometimes is ok and good, but I am a simple man. I like simple things. Give me a helles Bier and I am good. No wine for me.

A few in Stellenbosch years ago. KWV comes to my mind but also another SA wine that I can't remember now. I'm no fan of the New World wines. They lack the characteristics of the wines produced in Europe.

Love:

Pasta, especially with vodka sauce
Cream of Tomato soup
Green lentils soup with dough in it
Fidjin (an Ossetian food, it's like layers of thin pastry and potato&minced meat inside)
Psihalive (Circassian "ravioli". Has yogurt and a sauce on top)
Tomatoes with olive oil and basil
Mozzarella
Steamed vegetable dumplings (dim sum)
Japanese Moochi Ice Cream
Mandarines
Raclette (French Swiss speciality)
Roeshti (German Swiss specialty)
Moevenpick Ice Cream
Sangria
Rose Wine
Bailey's
Mushrooms
Olives
Paste (bread made out of corn-flour)

Hate:
I don't really "hate" any food per se, only I don't eat meat, chicken, fish or any seafood. I'm allergic to prawns anyway. I also don't like some vegetables too much such as spinach, but spinach pie is something I like.

Okay, if there is something I really can't stand it's the smell of roasted liver, kokorech (lamb's intestines, I think), brain (sheep) and other non-conventional parts of animals being eaten on the same table as me.
