I obviously prefer the wines from Monferrato, my region:
(www.it.wikipedia.org/Monferrato www.en.wikipedia.org/Monferrato www.fr.wikipedia.org/Monferrato www.nl.wikipedia.org/Monferrato www.de.wikipedia.org/Monferrato) Barolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, Freisa, Malvasia, Grignolino, Nebbiolo (red) Moscato, Cortese, Brachetto, Asti Spumante (white) I also like wines from Sicilia (Nero d'Avola), Valle d'Aosta (Torrette), Veneto (Prosecco), Toscana (Chianti). I have not tasted much foreign wines (few are as good as Italians), apart from wines from the Rheingau, which I found very good. |

If you like it sweet, mistela is a wine liquour which is nice as a dessert.
![]() Anyone like vermouth? Or is it too southern a thing to drink for people here? ![]() My best vermouth: ![]() They had some passable wines in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. Cabernet-Sauvignon. The first vineyards there were planted by Huguenots.

I like just one particular sweet sort of wine. And dry wine is often tasty, but too strong for me... I don't know why. |

![]() I do like vermouth, but I rarely drink anything other than a little wine with my meals these days. I will have to take it into consideration when the occasion appears.

My favorite grape varieties are:
a.) RED: Tempranillo, Syrah, Malbec. b.) White: Gewurtztraminer, Albariño, Verdejo, Chardonay, Malmsey (malvasía). I have tasted excellent refined Spanish wines, as well as Argentinian ones. South African, Turkish and Australian wines can be very pleasent. Morrocan white wines can be pleasent but red are terrible. German and most central european wines are pure chemistry I have never tasted excellent Italian wines, nor Portuguese and you need to pay much to much to get a good French wine. Regarding Spanish wines, I would say: a.) Red wine: Ribera de Duero & Rioja, both TEMPRANILLO areas, are my favorite. Somontano and Toro are also nice. b.) White Wine: Albariños, Ruedas, and Canarish wines are the best in my opinion. Regarding sweet wines, I have to beloved ones: a.) Canarian Sweet Malvasía. b.) Pedro Ximenez, prefently from Montilla-Moriles area. |

This last summer a friend brought me a few bottles of Italian white wine Pinot Griggio, and I admit that I liked it much. But I'm not much of a white wine drinker, only occasionally.
