GJILANE -- Kosovo police, KPS, said today arrested four Kosovo Albanians near the village Zegra, close to the border with FYREOM, on suspicion of arms smuggling.
Regional spokesman Ismet Hashani told reporters that police that KFOR troops station in the vicinity at the same time confiscated "vast quantities of arms".
In a statement for Tanjug, Hashani said the police action took place at around 19:00 CET Sunday.
The huge cache was seized by members of KFOR's U.S. contingent, "due to the nature of the weapons", he specified.
The spokesman added the arms included anti-tank rocket launchers, automatic rifles, and considerable quantities of ammunition of different caliber.
The AP reported that the weapons were apparently shipped to ethnic Albanian extremists in FYROM.
The United Nations have estimated that there are still between 330,000 and 440,000 pieces of weaponry illegally held in Kosovo.
