Bosnian Serbs try to storm U.S. consulate26 February 2008 | 15:35 | Source: Beta, AP BANJA LUKA -- Anti-Kosovo independence demonstrations have turned into riots today.
Police are firing tear gas protesters in Banja Luka, RS, to prevent them from storming the U.S. consulate after protests against Kosovo's independence, the AP reported.
A small group split from almost 10,000 peaceful protesters and was trying to reach the consulate, breaking windows of shops and throwing stones at police who have blocked streets leading to the building with armored vehicles, the agency said.
Beta reports that one policeman has been injured so far.
The central square in the largest town of the Bosnian Serb entity is blocked with strong police forces as riots continue
