Italy, Spain, central Europe popular with Turkish tourists
Monday, August 20, 2007 Turkish tourists, who want to spend their holiday abroad, mostly choose Italy Spain and central Europe. They show interest in Roma-Venice-Florence tours in Italy and want to visit Madrid and Barcelona in Spain. Budapest, and Prague are popular cities for those who visit central Europe ANKARA - Anatolia News Agency Italy is the most popular country for Turkish tourists when they go abroad, says ETS International Tours Director İbrahim Cenk Okumuş. He says tourists generally choose one-week tours including Roma-Venice and Florence. He added that their company sent 200-300 people every week from June to August. Egypt, an alternative to Antalya The second most popular country drawing the interest of Turkish tourists is Spain, according to Okumuş. They want to see and Madrid the most in Spain. Paris and central Europe tours including weekly trips to Budapest, Vienna and Prague are also popular, he said. Egypt and Tunisia are offered to Turkish tourists for sea-sun-sand tourism as an alternative to Antalya, Okumuş says. Since visiting Tunisia does not require a visa, it is very popular during bayram holidays. We send 300-400 Turkish tourists to Tunisia every bayram holiday. He states that Turkish tourists prefer coastlines for domestic tourism and city tours during foreign travels. He says, 90 percent of Turkish tourists have cultural purposes. Even groups traveling to Egypt, they visit the pyramids for two days. Foreign countries popular during bayram holidays Turkish people want to travel foreign countries during Bayram and summer holidays, he states. He says the type of their travel changes according to the time period of bayram holidays and adds that they prefer long city tours during long holidays and a European capital during their short holiday. He says since this year bayram holidays are not long, three or four-day in European capitals will be in demand. During bayram holidays this year, foreign capital tours are the ideal choice. You can not go to the Mediterranean in the winter but visit Paris, Barcelona and Prague in three or four days. The rate of international holidays is too low' The rate of people who go abroad is too low in Turkey, which has a population of 70 million, and it remains the same every year, according to Okumuş. He adds that expected figures could not be reached because of economic factors and visa problems. The number of those who go abroad did not exceed last year's figure because of elections. Cost is the same' Italy draws the interest of Turkish tourists because it offers sea and history together, Pronto Tour Domestic Tourism Director Emre Tunç says. He says they sell Roma-Florence-Venice tours every week and that Prague draws much interest in central Europe. He says their company started organizing tours to the Greek islands this year, and they also send tourists to the Far East and the United States. The rate of Turkish tourists going abroad has increased in recent years. Because hotel prices in the Mediterranean are high. The cost of a domestic and international holiday is almost the same. 30 percent increase this year' Turkish travelers prefer Paris, Italy, Spain, Egypt and Tunisia, says the director of Anı Tour Domestic Tourism, Ümit Tuncel. He says Turks choose one-week programs between June and September, and adds, 70 percent of our guests choose group reservations and tours accompanied by tourist guides. He says this year there is a 30 percent increase in demand for international holidays and that the promotional schemes of and airline companies abroad have been effective for this increase. source: Italy, Spain, central Europe popular with Turkish tourists - Turkish Daily News Aug 20, 2007

There are many Turkish tourists. I saw quite a lot of them in Zagreb, Ljubljana, Budapest and Vienna. They didn't look like any sort of illegal immigrants. It is the newly emerging Turkish middle class.

I've seen some in the Balkans also. I remember my friend telling me that among some descendants of Janissary's would go back to the countries where their ancestors came from. Since there are literary millions of them from the Balkans and as the Balkans are close to Turkey it can be expected.

Actually I see no problem in temporary tourism from non-European countries. As a matter of facts people from these countries tend to be far more civilized, respectful and polite than their brothers and cousins living here in Europe (with some exceptions of course).

It's not a good news. When well doing guys come from a place more notorious for tourism than tourists to visit your country, you can feel the wind has changed of direction. We are the new 3rd worlders.
