Default Spanish soldier dies in Kosovo road accident

Spanish soldier dies in Kosovo road accident
April 25, 2007 6:57 PM
(AP) -- One Spanish soldier died and another was seriously injured Tuesday when their BMR armored vehicle ran off the road and flipped over while on patrol in Kosovo, the defense ministry said here.
Officials identified the dead man as Jose Javier Colorado Ramirez, 19.
They said that soldier Juan Carlos Correa Munoz, who suffered a broken right forearm and severe abdominal bruising, was evacuated by helicopter to the Role 2 hospital in Prizren, where his prognosis was described as guarded.
The other occupants of the BMR sustained bruises and other minor injuries, and all were treated at the Espana base in Istok.
The soldiers were making a routine patrol when the accident occurred.
The 550-man Spanish troop contingent is part of the Western Group of the NATO-led Kosovo Force, or KFOR, and is deployed mainly in the town of Istok.
Colorado's death brings to five the number of Spaniards killed while serving with KFOR in Kosovo, all of them as the result of accidents. Kosovo is a Serbian province with a mostly Albanian population which is demanding independence from Belgrade and since June 1999 has been under the administrative protection of the U.N., including the KFOR security force.

First, I don't know what Spanish soldiers are doing in a sovereign country (Serbia) if they have not been called in by the government or the people of that country.

Second, seeing that there have already been a number of casualties in Kosovo and in Afghanistan in driving incidents, I have to conclude that if the level of military training of the Spanish Army is as good as the training of drivers we are in big trouble.

I'm ashamed.

I haven't heard anything bad about Spanish soldiers in Kosovo. But I know they weren't invited here. Personally I've only heard good things said about Orthodox Greek, Armenian, Bulgarian, Romanian, Ukrainian and some Slavic (mainly Slovak) soldiers. A side from those who would naturally be viewed positively I've only heard positive comments about Italians -- they actually defended churches and monasteries from Islamic mobs (something Italians did in WWII against Albanian mobs).

The worst are the Norweigian, American, British and German. The Germans because they don't engage in combat against the Albanians -- they've actually been seen to have runaway from Albanian mobs, although it's been reported that this hasn't happenned recently. Americans don't do nothing except stay at a massive base they constructed illegally which is used as a so-called black site. British are just incomponent. And Norweigian are the worst since they were caught desecrating church artificats and monuments.

The withdrawal of the spanish troops in Kosovo and Afghanistan, and Bosnia is very necessary. And the training of these soldiers are deficient.

Perhaps they could defend their own country, and particularly some permeable frontiers.
