French court rules pork soup kitchen not racist

A French court ruled Tuesday that an organization with far-right links can continue offering pork soup to the homeless, rejecting police complaints that the food distribution was racist.
Police banned the soup kitchen last month, arguing that the handouts discriminated against Jews and Muslims who do not eat pork on religious grounds.
The administrative court said the distribution was "clearly discriminatory," but could not be stopped because the organizers offered to feed anyone who asked for help.
The mayor of Paris condemned the ruling and urged the police to appeal the ruling.
"Faced by this initiative which stinks of xenophobia, I want once again to express city hall's desire to fight all forms of discrimination, racism and anti-Semitism," mayor Bertrand Delanoe said in a statement.
The food handouts are organized by a nationalist group called Solidarity of the French (SDF). It says its "pig soup," which uses pork fat for stock, is country fare much loved by French traditionalists.
"No-one has ever been able to prove that anyone has been refused soup or clothes on the grounds of their religion or race," SDF lawyer Frederic Pichon told France Info radio after Tuesday's court decision.

Now seriously, I'm interested in the details of that French organisation. Perhaps Carnyx or Theobald could feed me on them?

I wonder what are the limits to religious and/or racial discrimination when it comes to a NGO. Say a NGO with a charter for the preservation of native peoples, why should they have to divert their resources on non natives?

You wouldn't expect a NGO with a charter to save the whales to be told to focus on other species.

Solidarité des Français. Sort of reference to Sans Domicile Fixe (PC word meaning homeless).

It's no secret they are no Leftists, you'll obviously find strong ties with French Identitarians (Les Identitaires) and less but still with the FN (they were at FN last 1st of May celebration in Paris, place de l'Opéra) for instance, however they seem to be quite free and are willing to avoid fights between movements, they first focus on their associative work. Also the woman (Odile Bonivard) who leads SDF seems quite nice and courageous.

I'm not sure how effective something like that could be. I doubt that most North Africans are strict in their following of Islamic beliefs, at least with regards to alcohol and pork. But a very nice thing to do nonetheless.

This is typical of so much of these unjust legal actions; it is not what one does but what one believes politically that gets the legal system on the attack. I suppose if one has very extreme views buying stamps in the post offfice can bring criminal charges too.

You are right with regards to alcohol. But most of them - if not all - do not eat pork, sometimes the prohibition of pork is even for some North Africans the only Muslim thing they respect. They have some psychological problem with that poor animal. They drink Jack Daniel's, eat non-halal huge hamburgers during Ramadan, don't even know where is the mosque, but oh, pork? Scandalous!

Some people can't understand that a hot chocolate doesn't nourish when you live in the streets in a cold winter...

I should have added that their spirit is (from what I've heard): "pas de porc, pas de dessert" ("no pork, no dessert" ) while among those other French native people-oriented associations, those who "cannot" eat pork -because of an ethno-religious prohibition are offered other kind of non-pork food and yet they got banned. Of course we all know homeless are natives in an overwhelming majority.

Well, very often it's not about convictions but just to affirm their ethnic belonging to a group which is totally alien to us and only that.

There's indeed a space to conquer in our most poperous population. An excellent inititiave -still smater than those nuts who beat homeless for nothing- that I'd like to see copycated. Let the soups start where the peoples of Europe are suffering.

Those people are very courageous, they are exposing themselves to any winds.

Exactly. Had they been lefts, they wouldn't have got into trouble. It's quite clear for us, the system's priority is not to put an end to misery and care after homeless but to be harmfull with people with certain annoying ideas.

Pig soup off menu for Paris homeless

The Conseil d’Etat, France’s highest authority on administrative law, has banned an organisation called Solidarité des Français from distributing its soup containing pig ears, feet and tails to the capital’s rough sleepers.

On Friday night, the court announced that it had upheld an earlier decision by the Paris police chief to shut down the soup kitchen, which has been accused of discriminating against Muslims and Jews, whose religions forbid the consumption of pork.
