I reported this on a post on another thread:
Muslims plan Slovenia's first mosque Interesting to notice here is that the Partido Andalucista (Andalucist Party) which denounced the construction of the mosque, is not what one would like to believe, if going from that article. The P.A. was financed in its origins by Arabs as I've said in my post. They follow on the ideas of Blas Infante, which are basically those of 19th century Romantic nationalism with a special twist for Andalusia. 19th century Romantic nationalism is heavily based on the myth, wherever it arises. As a not apart, another interesting 19th century Romantic nationalism worth an analysis was in Germany. In the 19th century we see the birth of the myth of Islam as an idyllic world of high culture, civilisation and prosperity, in the Western literature through mainly English and French writers. It is a confused (and mythical) idea of Orientalism. Blas Infante (1885 - 1936) developed an idea of "Andalucism" or "Andalusian nationalism" (nationalism under the flawed 19th century romantic nationalism precepts) which incorporates ideas of this also 19th century Orientalism. So the idea of an Andalusian patria with origins in Islamic al-Andalus arises in opposition to the idea of a Spanish nation re-born in the Reconquista of the ashes of the Vth-VIIth century nation of Spania. This "nationalism", however, also includes a pseudo-federalist idea which would not allow the rest of The Spains to set themselves free from that Andalusian "nation". This is not unique to Andalusian pseudo-nationalism, but also to all other pseudo-nationalisms that have their origins in romantic nationalism: Catalan and Galician (Basque is a little different here since it incorporates romantic nationalism at a later time, but it is born from a different source). So you see? The Partido Andalucista, a heir of the ideas of Blas Infante, only tried to get some publicity right before the by-elections. I wouldn't trust their intentions one inch.

Well, yes. But it is still a mirage.

Politicians smell the weather and act accordingly.
However it is a compelling promise they have made, it won't be easy to back off without disgusting the common people who might have liked the idea and voted for them.
