Some traditional Swabian dresses which are still worn occassionally - but unfortunately are not visible every day anymore.

Costume for women and girls, Allgäu region

Aalen

Rottenburg

Bietigheim

Lauchheim

Betzingen

- old postcard

- honest and straight forward - good natured with no end and gruffly when he has to be it - this is the Swabian.

Default Traditional dress of the 1800's

I cannot understand the popularity for so long and over such a wide area of knee-breeches for men. As a boy I wore knee-breeches, known in the US as "knickers", and I found them miserably uncomfortable. The long stockings worn with them itched fiercely as did the tight cuffs of the breeches themselves.

Long pants were an enormous relief. However, long pants were worn mostly by boys 15 years and older. I was delighted to get a pair of "longies" when I was only 14. They were the only pants that, at that age, I wore out before I outgrew them.

Inasmuch as I had already started to shave, I was deemed qualified to wear long pants thenceforth.

I will most definitely buy a traditional dresss again - admittedly, the Bavarian way to wear the lederhose is more comfortable..

My favourite so far is the Scottish traditional dress. I'm not a big fan of wearing shoes.
