No, I am just trying to imagine how it is to say this word "cold" when you are out of your home, somewhere in Canada, exposed to Canadian cold climate...

5ºC at 5:00 am here. It snowed today just some 20 km away from where I am, in a nearby sierra.
The funny thing is that less than a fortnight ago, people in this area were going to the beach with temperatures around 20ºC. I even remember a lady from Cantabria (N. Spain) saying that the water was warmer here now in the winter than over there in the summer. I tell you, this is madness.

I grew up at 55° N lattitude in western Canada. I remember one day (although such extremes were the exception) when it was -52°C stagnant and -76°C with wind chill. Even the moose were dying...

Never before have the temperature in Oslo been higher than today, this time of the year; 31,5 degrees! ( at present 25,5 at my eastern wall at 21.20 PM)
Also the water temperature in the sea is higher than ever, today in Oslo past 20 degrees, and still rising! ![]() Ikke varmere så tidlig i juni siden 1887. Source . Last edited by Savage; Friday, June 8th, 2007 at 19:25. |

What about this time one year ago?
Last year in Spain, Summer weather arrived earlier than usual and temperatures were very high in July and August. This year Spring has lasted more than usual. These days we are having maximum temperatures of between 27º and 30ºC.

People wear often too much clothes, and gets overheated...Many also gets too little liquid, and it seems to me that many physical workers have not discovered the wonders of salt tabelets when working hard in the heat. We are having 25ºC here, at 11.00 am. It will surely rise two to three degrees by midday/noon. I'd say that these are average normal temperatures for this time of the year.
I'm not confident in that the summer is going to be stable. In the last past years we have had extremely hot and dry summers. The high temperatures in the North are particularly worrying for their effect in the Arctic ice caps. I posted an article where scientists speculate on the possible effects of an excess fresh water release resulting from the melting of Arctic ice: A Chilling Possibility

We had a heat wave in the area of Valencia all day yesterday, provoked by the dry western wind that blows from the central high plateau of Spain down to the plains of the eastern coast.
Temperatures reached the 40ºC mark. A change in wind direction took place at around 2 am, to an eastern direction. Temperatures at 9 am today were of 22ºC and cloudy. Weather forecasts are predicting max. temperatures of 25ºC and min. temperatures of 17ºC for the rest of the week, at least on a three-day forecast. In past decades, these western winds used to last for three consecutive days on a couple of occasions during the summer. In the last few years, the trend has been of one day. A characteristic of the Mediterranean Sea is that, being surrounded by landmass, winds are rarely constant in direction or intensity and changes in wind direction often take place several times during a same day.
