When I was in E. France, I used to cover a lot when the temp. were under 0°C.

My house is rather old, and the walls are very thick, I even don't need to turn on batteries in my room.

My idea was that for E.Europeans these are normal temperatures, so they are prepared for them (warm clothes etc). Do you buy clothes specially for very cold days?

Btw, Siberians laugh at European Russian winters. They say our winter is fake. The only true winter is when it's -30 or less outdoors.

The warmest thing I have is a barbour jacket. And I still haven't had a chance to wear it this winter..

By the way, I've seen one Russian here in Valencia saying that it was cold. He was from Moscow.

That's easy to explain. The weather here is often damp and no matter how much clothes you put on, it gets through straight in your bones.

Not really, I hardly buy any new clothes at all. Hmm, but I heard some do. They call it la mode or something. They even buy new clothes for summer time.

Better have a little fat to protect yourself against cold bites in such a cold climate. Where are the lowest temp. registered in Siberia?

Somewhere in Yakutia, if I'm not mistaken. My dad's relatives worked there as geologists. -50 is usual winter temperatures there, they said.

Yes, because of the ocean or the sea. People who are not used to such damp climates feel them very uncomfortable when it gets cold. It is more bearable for them to lower temperatures, but dry.

In some areas, in houses near the beach, I've seen the bedsheets completely damp in the winter. You can feel the cold deep in your bones and there is nothing you can do to get rid of it.

It's not for cold weather anyway, but for rainy and damp weather. Barbour jackets are one thing that I do appreciate from the Brits. Mine is about 10 years old and the older it gets, the better it looks.

It is the warmest winter I can remember in my entire life. I can't remember any winter in which the average temperature was at about 10 degrees Celsius (and I am talking about continental region, Pannonia!)
