It must have some benefit for someone, otherwise this whole (illegal) immigration business would have been stopped by now. Those who benefit are likely those in the highest spheres of power. It does not have to be some immediate and tangible benefit, which can be expressed in percentages and other devices of mathematical representation, but might be part of some larger scheme of pursuing absolute domination over individual countries and, per extensionem, of the whole world.

As you can see, their more powerful excuse for immigration, the absolute need for the economy, seems actually quite weak ... at least in the US case, which has its peculiarities and is different from Europe, where most immigrant workforce is regular.

Well, yes. But he has stripped out "all of the politics" as the tv presenter says and I would suspect that that means a lot left out of the equation. Typically economicist. There are economic benefits (and costs) that are much harder to quantify either because they don't fit into short term equations, or because of their variables.

In a way, it is similar to the costs/benefits of the War against Iraq in that it is a gamble.
