Default Chinese Immigration to Russia

It is amazing how many Chinese are pouring into Russia, especially over the past 5 years. I read in one article that the number of Chinese immigrants is now greter then the number of Ukrainians in Moscow.

Heres are interesting article about a Russian Chinese immigrant who kept his friend in a freezer for 2 years. Apparently they don't have any laws against that in Russia.

Default Re: Chinese Immigration to Russia

Russia should be wary of becoming a raw-materials appendage to China and of certain regions of the country (e.g., the Primorski and Khabarovsk territories, or the Transbaikal) becoming exclusively oriented toward the Chinese market. There are fears that China can use its superior financial and economic resources to gain control over the Russian defense industry in the Far East and Siberia and integrate it into China’s domestic military industrial complex.25 Another major area of potential Chinese-Russian rivalry is competition for energy resources, especially as Russia, too, may soon become a net oil importer.
In the demographic sphere the danger is not so much the "demographic overlapping" of Chinese provinces over the Russian Far East, which cannot be eliminated in any case, but the inconsistent or inefficient immigration policies of the Russian authorities. Indeed, major flows of Chinese migration are oriented toward the south rather than the north. Yet only a relatively small portion of Chinese migrants will suffice to upset completely the current ethnic and political balance. Integration of significant groups of Chinese and Koreans in Russian society is necessary and, maybe, inevitable. Some analysts forecast that by mid-21st century there will be 17 to 40 million Chinese living in Russia who thus will become the second largest ethnic group in Russia after the Russians themselves.26 This possibility alone should revolutionize Russia’s way of thinking and mobilize the will of the authorities. Given these conditions, the lack of clear and consistently implemented immigration policies virtually guarantees inter-ethnic frictions that may easily lead to violent clashes between the local Russians and the Chinese immigrants, which in turn could escalate to an inter-state conflict between Russia and China.27

By the end of the 19th century, roughly 500,000 Chinese lived in the Russian Far
East, representing an important component of the regional labor force, especially
in the agriculture, trade, and service sectors. The total population of the Russian
Far East for that period did not exceed 1.5-2 million.

http://www.rand.org/publications/CF/CF130/CF130ch7.pdf

Accompanying the flow of Chinese goods to the Far Eastern market was a rush
of Chinese investors. During 1992–1993, the Chinese were ahead of the Japanese
and Koreans in the number of joint ventures formed with Russian firms. By the
end of 1993, 42 percent of all joint ventures registered in the Far East involved
Chinese capital investment, with the largest amounts flowing into the Amur
oblast and the Primorsky territory.

Various Faces of Chinese Immigration
Since 1991, the Chinese have flocked to the Russian Far East under the guise of
cultivating business ties. The first stage of such migration, 1991–1992, was
marked by lax Russian immigration regulations and encouragement by the
Chinese government.

The scale of Chinese immigration in the Russian Far East has been a contested
issue. By different estimates, the number of Chinese immigrants in the Russian
Far East in 1993 ranged from 200,000 to 2 million people. By 1993, however, the
entire population of the three continental southern territories of the Far East,
which were the focus of immigration, was only 4.8 million people.

Wow, scary figures. I can't remember where I've read that, but Russia is about to build a "China town" both in Moscow and St Petersburg. That's just the beginning. And they won't just stop in Russia. They're here yet but Chinese are going to come in western Europe en masse. Africans are the nursery compared to Asians. The fact is that both Chinese and Indians (I see more and more Indians here) have a lack in women, guess where they're going to seek some?

I'm amazed that they are letting them in enmass. They are basically taking over the industry in Khabarovska and Vladivostok. I was invited there for a cocert tour 2 years ago, and have family in Vladivostok - but the fact that they are now the second largest ethnic group in Moscow scares me and pretty soon the second largest ethnic group in all of the Russian Federation. You kind of woder - for whom did they open up Siberia for - in order or te Chinese to settle it.

I was atching a coupe of humourous TV programs (Gorodok from Petersburg) where they were making fun of Russian border guards who are now more proficient at speakin gChinese than Russian and the Chinese with Russian Citizenship and Russian passports who can't speak Russian.

I can't see anyone in Canada giving out passports if tyou don't have a basic knowledge of English.

According to the latest census taken in 2002 there are 35,000 Chinese in Russia's population of 145,000,000:

I don't trust Official census. Take France for instance, our governement woul be unable to say exactly how many Chinese live in France (ditto for the other groups) because of illegals who disappear without trace. They would be 1 million, but in reality they're more numerous than that.

In Spain it has been found that the Chinese replace their dead people with new arrivals. It was exposed in an article which noticed the fact that you never get to see Chinese niches in the cemeteries.

What they do is to use the residence card of the deceased for another arrival, and since Spaniards see all the Chinese looking the same..

Now, what do they do with the dead Chinese? I have no clue, but just in case you will never see me eating Chinese food.

Same here!... That's exactly what they do! They've exactly the same method, applied all over the world.

Yes, Chinese have no problem to make corpse disappear. It is said that in Paris a lot of guys (alive) vanish in thin air, so dead guys... And the fact is that they succeed. It must not be a big deal for a such a community. In my opinion, it must certainly be well organised. Criminal organisation is involved, for sure.

Interesting so who is right?

Acording to the article the number of Chinese just i the east is 10 to 100 times more. The numbers are out cionsiderakly. Not just a couple of percent. From the article it seems that almost every 2nd person i the Far East is Chines e now.

Then in an article in Pravda I saw only a few days ago it writes about hiw the Chinese immigration to Moscow just this year is close to 200,000 and for the first time is larger that the Ukrainian presence there?

Why are the statistics so far off what is being reported in the press and being perceived by the poeple?

Whose interested in such manipulaton?

Well besides Slavs, the second largest ethnic group I noticed while in St. Petersburg were Asians of form(Chinese or Korean mostly).

But I have read reports that the number of Chinese immigrants have been overblowned. In fact I have such an example in a newsletter I read published by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

I heard already in mid-nineties about mass-immigration of Chinese to Siberia.

I wonder how they manage to get permits of residence.

Russian Federation is a country where illegal immigration in absolute numbers is second only to the USA. Furthermore, corruption at all levels and transparency (or actual non-existence) of borders with CIS countries make it possible for Chinese or whatever migrants pour in streams that exceed all expectations.
