Aurignacids are another name for robust, cro-magnoid upper paleolithic types.
I have heard, to the contrary, the term used on this site as if it was in opposition to "upper paleolithic" (while, in reality, being an UP culture associated with robust, early modern humans) and cro-magnoid. Where does this confusion come from, and is there any reasoning behind it?

Thats one reconstruction I know of, I think its from an Russian source and there are better pictures of it on the web:
![]() Its worth to note, that this Combe Capelle skull, as well as other Protomediterranoid Europoids, had still more primitive characteristics, f.e. the nasal shape, than the Cromagnids, this however, changed over time, whereas the basic form of Nordid, Mediterranid, Orientalid and Indid is still the same as that of Combe Capelle, especially if being compared with Cromagnid skulls. In any case, how can a skull be more "Upper Palaeolithic" for European conditions than Combe Capelle? Yet he is clearly not of the same kind as the overgrown or Cromagnoid forms Coons named that way. In fact, I would assume that the number of more leptodolichomorphic and gracile variants was reduced during the Last Ice Age period actually.
