I too used to have a graphic card from the family of the S3 Trio64V+ which I had a hard time to make it work for the X Window System.

Anyway, if you are interested you could easily upgrade that machine at a low price. Most parts are now obsolete and sold cheap on second hand computer shops. EDO RAM, a second (and bigger) HD, a better graphics card, etc.

  • Board: ASUS P5GD1 (Based on 915P Intel chipset)
  • CPU: INTEL P4 521 (2800 MHz, 1MB, HT) w/cooler Zalman CNPS700-Cu
  • RAM: 2 x 512 MB PC3200 (400 MHz) CL3
  • Graphics: NVIDIA 5750 PCI Express
  • HD: Maxtor 200MB SATA1
  • OD: Combo TSSTcorp (Toshiba Samsung)- CD-DVDW TS-H552U
  • Floppy: Who cares the brand
  • Case: Cooler Master Centurion CAC-T01
  • Monitor: A huge heavy Nokia CRT 17'' dating 2001.
  • Printer: HP Deskjet 840

I once thought about it, even if just to try the latest Voodoo for PCI bus, but my first computer is already quite damaged... I even had to "underclock" it from 166 to 100 mhz because it was impossible to boot it otherwise. So imagine the devastating effect a Voodoo 3 2000 could produce on it.
