Well, debian is still faster, obviously install is for half-technicians ... redhat installer is nice.

A fast linux with a redhat installer was yoper, if it is still developed try it, it is compiled for recent processors so it goes fast.

As of macs, recent core duo intels are aggravated by an emulated OS, still OS and most applications are not native: a waste of power, like putting fiat wheels to a bmw.

For geeks: gentoo, you compile it for your processor.

Biggest problem Xorg (or Xfree) config file, just use that of a knoppix if you do not want to die, than improve it slowly for your cards.

Last time I tried gentoo I had problem with kernel modules not being compiled, so I had no video.

Yes, either slack or debian but I would say just keep faithful to one since both have their little tricks to be learnt.

I preferred debian from nework since you download the base system then you munt just the sofware you need, and in doing so you download even too much dependig software you will never use ...


For my next pc I will surely have a debian - windoze combination, since I will have almost 300 gigs of space.

For debian will use at least a dedicated kernel.

You are right. Most of Linux and GNU developers are politicized multiculturalists, and the GPL licencing scheme, though it has produced much good free software, it has also promoted the developmen of much low quality software.

When I'm back to pc I'm likely using freebsd after all, even debian is a leftist hotbed. Also I will not buy a mac just for the support to the american left by Apple, neither I will use mcrosoft because of its multicultural stance.

FreeBSD is an excellent choice. But if for any reason you had to choose a Linux based OS, I would suggest Slackware instead of Debian.

Well, frankly I use Ubuntu and will stick to it. The OS itself is not promoting anything political on my system as far as I see it and it takes a fool to appreciate an OS for its intrinsic worth and making its supposed political ambience one's own. Granted that there are fools around, I am not one of them.

What is sure is that this software is free after all, and therefore I'm not contributing any direct revenue to it as an IT product nor to its supposed political goals.

Yes, I use illegal software. Funny thing – this computer was sold with illegally installed Windows and with a lot of useful programs (I don't even know what most of them are for) with patches, keygens and cracks. And I used some of them. I felt guilty but not enough to go and look for a needed piece of legal software.

P.S. There are a lot of computer geeks on this forum!

I would give away most of my programs for free. But I would be pissed off if I spent 2 years making something and someone just used it for free... .-. I mean, I would give it as a gift to people and stuff, if they couldn't afford to pay the like, 30$ or whatever I'd charge, but... I'd feel upset.

I use only illegal software. My coutry is against of course, but they can not do anythig about it - more than 85% of all comuters ib Bulgaria use illegal software. Only big firms and the goverment pays to microsoft for their rubbish.
