Do you draw in that style yourself? And will you explain to me if there is any difference between anime and manga, please? For me all Japanese drawings seem identical.
By the way, for some reason centuries ago characters of Japanese drawing used to look “more Japanese” than present ones with pink and blue hair and enormous eyes. Quote:

, just one who happen to like this kind of art. Manga is Japanese b/w comics (only cover is coloured), and anime is a movie which is usually based on stories of manga series. Manga has a long history in Japan, but it became popular worldwide only 20 years ago. Personally I prefer anime (movies) over manga (comics). I've wondered about the big roundish eyes that WR mentions. Maybe a marketing change to make the comics characters more familiar to Europeans?
I believe that the Japanese have traditionally viewed round big eyes as a very unaesthetic feature.

Well, big eyes - it's just a style of drawing that made anime unique. I doubt that it has something to do with Europeans or intention to make them look European. Europeans don't have such big eyes anyway. Funny thing that anime characters usually seem to have epicanthic fold and huge eyes at the same time.

You know, my father and grandfather use to joke around about anime and they would say they had big eyes because when they would see europeans they would be blown away by the size of their eyes
but as far as liking it goes, I have never really liked it. I think it's the lack of details, also I grew up as a hardcore comic book reader, mostly the American titles and a few European ones as well. When I was around 10 I watched some anime, and it was mainly because my 2 friends were into it. I never got into it myself. I do admit some storylines are quite appealing.

I'm not crazy-crazy about anime and manga, but there are a few anime I like and I would always appreciate a graphic novel as a gift.
To me, it always seemed as though the Japanese are a bit fascenated by western culture. They use a lot of Judeo-Christian mythology and symbols, and have made a series of anime based on the Nazis [if only the West would be more casual about Nazis too ^^]. As for the eyes, I heard they're just big so that they can be more expressive. |

I'm only a fan of Anime because I was exposed to it during the sanctions in Serbia (basically back then the only new cartoons that were on tv were from Japan since companies like disney or hanna-barberra or european animation firms faced the threat of law suits for selling a series to Serbia). Basically I'm a fan of mecha's, the best one being evangellion.

I personally don't like any of the endings they've had. Whether in the series or in the movie. No ending can be good in that series that will please me.

A serie I quite enjoyed was Rurouni Kenshin, although this is restricted to the first season (inspired in the original manga plot). The following 3 were just Sony additions in order to increase the episode list, but resulted in a complete mental masturbation which had nothing to do with the essence of the story.
