Default The Village

Well Im in awe really.

One of the best films ive seen in a long time.

Its set in a village in the late 1800s and the villagers never travel outside of the line they have set with the edge of the wood and their village.

Later on an event occurs which means somebody must venture out to get something....

That happens about halfway through the film and towards the end the film takes a very clever and well thought out twist.

Overall, Its a bit slow but 30 mins towards the end it picks up and your reward is one of the best endings ive ever seen !.

9/10 !

The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and Signs are all films written, produced and directed by the same director, M.Night Shyamalan, and all have similar themes, and are made in the same style.

Signs would probably be my favorite.

I was sort of dissapointed at that movie, I thought it was going to be a thrill ride but it proved me rather wrong with the creature and all. But the plot twist was just brilliant, not a film I would want to see again.

Default AW: The Village

(warning spoilers for those that havent seen it)

Awesome movie. I like the idea of returning to pre-indrustrial age. I like the whole 'love' thing between main characters (phoenix guy and the blind girl). The blind girl was real cute, and definately my type. Good suspense and good storyline. I liked how they slowly unvieled the mystery. I liked (sort of) twist at the end where they keep living their secret by pretending the dead retard in the forest was a real monster, so they could keep living their utopia, with no blacks in it.

Just watched it last night, great movie. Specially liked the part where the blind girl tricks the Brody chap (the retarded dude) into falling into the pit.

Cheers

I think that this movie is disappointing. The story may be original at times, but the director's favourite film is obviously "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" ( THAT'S a great movie ), because he copies continuously the style and the environment. A man experienced in films will not be attracted by the "Village" because it is boring, a carbon copy of "Sleepy Hollow". The points that save ( a little ) the film:
1) Brendan Gleeson's great performance, as always. (Gangs of new York, Braveheart, the General, and other good movies )
2) The unexpectable explanation of the situation
3) The performance of Adrien Brody who plays the retard. Also played in the Pianist.

P.S. I want a cinema award!

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is not originally a film but a story, so I don't see how it carbon copies that, as it is a genre rather than a single movie. Those who have seen the movie (The Village) would understand why the environment is a "copy" of something. I will not give away too much but think "re-enactment".

I liked it a lot.... it's not really a movie-worthy story,
but it's overall good. A 6.5/10

Can you recognise that "Friday the 13th" is a carbon copy of "Halloween"? If not, then I understand why you cannot see why The Village is a c/c of Sleepy Hollow.

I liked it.

It could have been directed in a more elaborate way, but overall I liked the notion of it:

Revolt against the Modern World.

5/10 for the movie, 8/10 for the idea.

What I'm saying is, The Village had to contain a "copy" of something, preferably something related to American culture as we are talking about disillusioned American people revolting the modern world and creating one for themselves. How do you go about creating a world from scratch? You borrow, you use images that remind you of that idea and obviously, since it's the premise of the movie, you create a monster. Remember, one of the characters was a teacher, when you think from the characters' view, it all fits into place.

Sleepy Hollow is firstly, a story, and is not originally a movie. It takes place in a village that was more or less typical of that time. The Village takes place in a village trying to be typical of another time.

Friday the 13th and Halloween, on the other hand, are two films from the same 80s genre; the comparison cannot be made as such.
