Gladiator is a good film, I don't own it so I just see it every now and then, so the "gladiator" effect is stronger on me
![]() Troy was good when I first saw it, as time went by and I saw it again and thought more about it, I thought they could had done a lot more. Somehow I never thought that Brad Pitt did the character of the almighty Achiles to well..

I never go to the cinema and rarely hire a video/dvd film. But I'm looking forward to a new film to which will be released on Septermber 1st: Captain Alatriste.
![]() The film is based on the popular series of books of Captain Alatriste, by Arturo Pérez-Reverte and directed by Agustín Díaz Yanes. Alatriste is represented by Viggo Mortensen ( ).The story is based in the last days of the Spanish Golden Age, in the XVIIth century, on a society already in decadence. Alatriste is a veteran soldier of the Spanish Tercios in Flanders. A trailer of the fim here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAcrIr84OdQ

Certainly but he doesn't look very Spanish, does he? (unless he fits the physics of the fictional character or he is flemmish) I wouldn't imagine a Spaniard, even fluent in old Norse, playing a Viking either e.g.

I watched the film (Alatriste) yesterday. The reviews have been harsh. I suppose because they expected a super-production with much action from the Spanish Tercios, etc. People too have been critical because the arguments are long and boring.
But I liked it much. I saw a strong critique to the state of things in Spain at the time. It wasn't the Empire at its peak, but at its decadence in the XVII century. Through the life and the eyes of a Spanish soldier of the Tercios it showed the reality of a nation, a people who knew how to suffer and still gave their best while reigned by an unable king (Carlos IV), ruled by a useless valido (lit.: "abled", Count-Duke Olivares) and a corrupted nobility and administration.

Good old German film "Die Brücke" (The Bridge) About the last days of WWII when Hitler Jugend stands on their war duty while the adults run.
Also two Finnish films "Talvisota" (The Winter War) and "Rukajärven tie" ("The way of Ruka-lake", "V tylu vraga") - both about WWII also. Also "Braveheart" is enougth pathethic for me. The last thing i saw was [s]comedy[/s] tragedy "the grey zone" - about the gass-chambers strongly reccommended to all anty-semiths.
