Before I saw the movie, I watched the "Making of" on TV and got the impression at least half the film would be a copy of "Science": Some guys flee from the aliens and hide in a cellar of a farm. But it turned out to be a completely different film.
The film was "OK", but not exhilarating. I liked the beginning, but got bored at the end. Too much (and too fast) happy end. Impressive pictures, some shocking moments, nice special effects and some funny goofs. Prepare for about twoentertaining hours at the cinema. And don't forget the popcorn! ![]() |

My question is...why would a civilization, advanced enough to send their Tripods thousands of years (if not hunderd of thousands) ago to earth, advanced enough for terraforming, death rays, etc...not capable of just thinking about possibily wearing some sort of space suite or just a freaking gasmask when bound to planetary take over? Not being able to detect a bacteria common eneough to wipe out their whole assault force in three days planet wide?
I loved how those EMPs destroyed everything but the Camcorder that guy had when the first Tripod came out under them. ![]() Would be interesting to see a second part when earth pays the alliens a visit with their own tech..so as to settle some accounts. |

I guess it was good except for many mistakes. I felt the ending was completely rushed. They ran out of time so they just pulled something lame out of their ass, I was like "PLease something better.".

Yes, I was very anoyed that the son survived where all those soldiers died. Actually, I was even more anoyed at the family comming out of their house that did not have even a broken window, Cruise's ex wife and in-laws come out looking like they just had Thanksgiving dinner.
What are the chances that one of those buried Tripods would not have been found in thousands of years of excavation and natural erosion? And why would they go through all the hassle of burying their death machines for some future take over? Why not take it over at that point? |

well i guess it's up to us to figure out why they didn't take over back then. I figured that they need humans as food(they spray them around and then harvest it maybe?) and back then there wasn't enough human beings so it woudln't had been worth it perhaps?

![]() The movie is pretty enjoyable, sometimes even jawdropping, although the happy end is really lame. |

Great special effects, rather boring running of the plot and a terrible ending with a clearly rushed finale. You actually have to sit and talk about it to get to the whole "aaaah, so the splinter the little girl had... aaah, foreshadowing, oh-kay" moment. I even slept shamelessly during the scenes with Tim Robbins, and, -moment of confession- a bit in the end (sorry Alkman, I lied! I did sleep!
)You could just as well wait for the DVD to come up, really. |
