Timo's Movie Review: Aliens v Predator
Just watched it.
Well I'll start off saying that if you're not a Sci-Fi person then stay away from this one. I think only science fictions fans would like this one. I found it a bit disapointing. I won't reveal any endings or major plot stuff in my review, like I have on others previous, because I... Well, I just don't feel like going through it with this movie.
Basics are that it explains the whole Predator phenomena, and their relationship to humans. It shows them as an "Honourable Hunter" figure, and seems to ignore at the end that the whole purpose they use humans as is food for their ultimate prey... the Aliens. The end is very surprising and a good twist, I certainly didn't expect it. I smell a sequel to this movie, just by the cliff-hanger ending alone. They speeded this film way to fast. It seems they wasted all their money on graphics and special FX (which are good, BTW), and didn't have enough money for extra film. I felt it cramed everything into a short amount of time. The hibernation for the Aliens is way too short, and doesn't correspond to the original Alien movie, unless these are a different subspecies or enhanced Alien, (which is not suggested in the movie) I think they messed up on that part. The Cast is not a good bunch at all. First problem I had was obvious, there were two negroes and one of whom was the main character. That was a turn off, but I'm not going to shut off a movie cause it has negroids in the cast. The other problem with the cast was that most were no-names; except the boss of the crew (forgot his name), I haven't seen any of them in any film I can name, and I've seen a bunch of films. Their acting was lacking, except the main character and the employer, I'd give them that. A lot of things were cliché and to be expected, like for instance falling down a shaft and in the dark finding yourself face to face with an Alien, which opens its mouth to reveal a secound mouth - something that was over done, in my opinion. I liked the way they tied the human civilizations of the past with the Predators, since I love ancient history and science/sci-fi, it appealed to me. The notion of a race of honourable hunters that kill for sport but are intelligent, compassionate, ritualistic and at the same time fierce killing machines, really apeals to me. They didn't reveal much about the Aliens' origin or purpose, other than their use as sport/ritual. As I was saying about the time line, it is condensed and people start to die too fast once the "ritual" starts. If one liked the Predator or Alien series', and would like to see an explanation to the former, then they should watch this movie. It has good action, special FX, climax and ending. Other than that, it was 'ok' and not worth paying good money on if you don't want another ET 'blow-em-up' movie.
From a scale, 0-5
