If it wasn't enough with Hollywood's distortions of history and distortions of historical figures, now they've toppled it with one Bollywood's actress to produce a mixed-up version of the fall of Rome and the Legend of King Arthur and ... well, judge for yourselves..

The movie looks like total rubbish by any standard. Too bad Ben Kingsley is involved, he's a good actor. |

Weren't there some Black slaves in the Roman Empire ?

You're probably right. But I think Errigal hit the nail on the head when he said that incorporating non-Europeans into films about European history is a subtle attempt to suggest that multiracialism is a natural thing in Europe that has been around for thousands of years. I highly doubt that the creators of this film care terribly about historical accuracy, and if they do, I would be very surprised to hear that it is historical accuracy which motivated them to incorporate non-Europeans into the film.
And, eventually, non-Europeans playing minor parts in films about European history will turn into major parts no doubt. It's already happening in some cases, such as that sub-Saharan actor playing Beowulf in the film (or was it a play?) Beowulf: Prince of the Geats which was discussed in another thread a while back. It's just sick and twisted. Nothing good can come of this. |

There's everything in this film, included feminist messages: a fighting 50Kg woman.

Yes but I think they were quite rare and they must have been just barely sub-Saharan in origin. Perhaps they managed to have the occasional Congolese Pygmy who survived the journey but he would have been for novelty purposes only. The shipping costs were outrageous in those days.

So disgusting stuff...
This agenda is present in recent films, and not just historical-of course is more retarded on this genre-just see "Fantastic 4" , TV-series; including, of course, promotion of interracial relationships...

There is a Black actor playing a slave in Gladiator as well.

Well if it works as any sort of satisfaction to anyone, it seems like this movie will be an absolute failure.

Surely if there had been a contingent of Black legionaires moving into European land, that would have been noticed in the texts of the classic historians and chroniclers.

That's right, and archaeological evidence for other ethnic groups and races in Roman service has been found all over the empire's territory. I've read of Germanic jewelry in Egypt and Syrian inscriptions on tombstones in northern England, so Black African legionaries would not have gone unnoticed.
