Prove Christ exists, judge orders priest

An Italian judge has ordered a priest to appear in court this month to prove that Jesus Christ existed.

The case against Father Enrico Righi has been brought in the town of Viterbo, north of Rome, by Luigi Cascioli, a retired agronomist who once studied for the priesthood but later became a militant atheist.
Signor Cascioli, author of a book called The Fable of Christ, began legal proceedings against Father Righi three years ago after the priest denounced Signor Cascioli in the parish newsletter for questioning Christ’s historical existence.

Strange request. Even historians seem settled on the fact that Jesus existed.
Whether he was actually the son of God is something else, but that a man named Jesus existed is pretty much a given in most circles.

What other historical figure's existence must we now prove?
Buddha? Rameses? Alexander the Great? Perhaps we need to prove history itself existed. There is a point when healthy skepticism descends into the realms of the bizarre. At which point a person starts to question reality itself.
After that, the subject is usually comitted to a mental asylum

The traditions of the Irish people are the oldest of any race in Europe north and west of the Alps, and they themselves are the longest settled on their own soil
- Edmund Curtis (A History of Ireland: From Earliest Times to 1922)

The Irish are one of the most ancient nations that I know of at this end of the world, and are from as mighty a race as the world ever brought forth.
For it is certain that Ireland hath had the use of letters very anciently and long before England; that they had letters anciently is nothing doubtful, for the Saxons of England are said to have their letters and learning, and learned men, from the Irish.
- Edmund Spenser (writer, and British Government Official in Ireland, AD 1596).

The renaissance began in Ireland seven hundred years before it was known in Italy. And Armagh, the ecclesiastical capital of Ireland, was at one time the metropolis of civilisation.
- Arsene Darmesteter, Professor of Old French and Literature

Ireland can indeed lay claim to a great past; she can not only boast of having been the birthplace and abode of high culture in the fifth and sixth centuries . . . but also of having made strenous efforts in the seventh and up to the tenth century to spread her learning among the German and Romance peoples, thus forming the actual fountain of our present continental civilisation.

I remember in Paris once I saw in a wall

God proved than Jean-Paul Sartre does not Exists!
(Sartre proved ( !!! ) that God was not existing in real life).

Back to reality now, it is absolutely stupid to try to prove a belief!
If Jesus was existing or not this is a subject of historic review and definetelly not of a court, but in any case cannot any rationalist or a priest put proofs on this subject deeply rooted to belief since the borders of science and religion become clamsy enough to be undistinguishable.
