Default The Prayers of the Rosary (in latin)

Something every catholic should know by heart.

In Nomine Patris (Sign of the Cross)

In nómine Patris, et Fílii, et Spíritus Sancti.

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Credo in Deum (The Apostles' Creed)

Credo in Spíritum Sanctum, sanctam Ecclésiam cathólicam, sanctórum communiónem, remissiónem peccatórum, carnis resurrectiónem, vitam ætérnam. Amen.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day He arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen.

Pater Noster (Our Father)

Pater noster, qui es in cælis, sanctificétur nomen tuum. Advéniat regnum tuum. Fiat volúntas tua, sicut in cælo, et in terra. Panem nostrum cotidiánum da nobis hódie, et dimítte nobis débita nostra sicut et nos dimíttimus debitóribus nostris. Et ne nos indúcas in tentatiónem, sed líbera nos a malo. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven; hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Ave Maria (Hail Mary)

Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum; benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus. Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Gloria Patri (Glory Be)

Glória Patri, et Fílio, et Spirítui Sancto. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, et in sæcula sæculórum.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Domine Iesu (O my Jesus) - Prayer of Our Lady of Fatima

Domine Iesu, dimitte nobis debita nostra, salva nos ab igne inferiori, perduc in cælum omnes animas, præsertim eas, quæ misericordiæ tuæ maxime indigent. Amen.

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who have most need of Thy mercy. Amen.

Salve Regina (Hail, Holy Queen)

Salve Regína, Mater misericórdiæ; Vita dulcédo, et spes nostra, salve. Ad te Clamámus éxsules fílii Evæ; Ad te Suspirámus, geméntes et flentes in hac lacrimárum valle. Eia ergo, Advocáta nostra, Illos tuos misericórdes óculos ad nos convérte: Et Iesum, benedíctum fructum ventris tui, Nobis post hoc exsílium osténde. O clemens, o pia, o dulcis Virgo María. Amen.

Hail Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy; Hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Amen.

Ora Pro Nobis

V. Ora pro nobis, Sancta Dei Génetrix.

R. Ut digni efficiámur promissionibus Christi.

V. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.

R. That we may be worthy of the promises of Christ.

Deus, cujus Unigenitus (O God, Whose only begotten Son)

Amen.

Let us pray. O God, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech Thee, that meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen.en.

Well to be honest i still remember it all by heart from my childhood days when my great aunt used to make us all sit down and recite the rosary every evening - in latin.

Default AW: The Prayers of the Rosary (in latin)

Interesting. Well I'm not religious and don't know them all, but I could say 'Pater Noster' by heart at any time. I had to learn it for Latin class.

I know the Ave Maria by heart, in English and Latin. Why? I don't know, I just do. I also know Dixit Dominus, but that's because I love Vivaldi.

Here's a link that might interest the Catholics amongst us:
http://www.virtualrosary.org/

Apparently, you can download the software and pray the rosary with the program, I think in five different languages including Latin. Has graphics and a virtual rosary.

Default Re: The Prayers of the Rosary (in latin)

I'll just take the opportunity to hi-jack this with some Gaelic prayers

An bheannacht (Sign of the Cross)

In ainm an Athar agus an Mhic agus an Spioraid Naoimh. Amen.

Ar Nathair (The Lords Prayer - Irish)

Ár nAthair atá ar neamh,
go naofar d'ainm
Go dtaga do ríocht
Go ndéantar do thoil
ar an talamh mar a dhéantar ar neamh.
ár n-arán laethúil tabhair dúinn inniu
Agus maith dúinn ár bhfiacha
Mar a mhaithimidne ár bhféichiúnaithe féin
Agus ná lig sinn i gcathú
ach saor sinn ó olc. ( Amen ).
óir is leatsa an ríocht
agus an chumhacht agus an ghlóir
Trí shaol na saol. Amen.

(The Lords Prayer in Scottish)

Ar n-athair a tha air nËamh:
gu naomhaichear d'ainm.
Thigeadh do rÏoghachd.
DËantar do thoil air an talamh,
mar a nithear air nËamh.
Tabhair dhuinn an ar fiachan,
amhuil mar a mhaitheas sinne d'ar luchd-fiach.
Agus na leig am buaireadh sinn,
ach saor sinn o olc.
Oir is leatsa an rioghachd
agus an cumhachd agus
a'ghÚir gu siorruidh.

Sé do bheatha, a Mhuire (Hail Mary)

Sé do bheatha, a Mhuire, atá lán de ghrásta,
tá an Tiarna leat.
Is beannaithe thú idir mná
agus is beannaithe toradh do bhroinne, Íosa.
A Naomh Mhuire, a Mháthair Dé,
guigh orainn na peacaigh,
anois agus ar uair ár mbáis.

Glóir don Athair (Glory Be)

Glóir don Athair agus don Mhac
agus don Spiorad Naomh;
Mar a bhí ar dtús, mar atá anois agus
mar a bheas go brách, le saol na saol. Amen.

Cuimhnigh (Memorare)

Cuimhnigh,
a Mhaighdean Mhuire róghrámhar,
nár chualathas trácht ar éinne
riamh a chuir é féin
faoi do choimirce
ná a d'iarr cabhair ort
ná a d'impigh d'idirghuí
is gur theip tú air.
Lán de mhuinín asat, dá bhrí sin,
rithimse chugat, a Mhaighdean
na maighdean is a Mháthair.
Is chugatsa a thagaim,
is os do chomhair a sheasaim,
i mo pheacach bocht atuirseach.
Ó a Mháthair an Aonmhic,
ná diúltaigh do m'urnaithe
ach éist leo go trócaireach agus
freagair iad. Ámén.

Cré na n-Aspal (The Apostles Creed)

Creidim i nDia, an tAthair uilechumhachtach,
Cruthaitheoir neimhe agus talún;
agus in Íosa Críost, a aon Mhacsan,ár Tiarna,
a ghabhadh ón Spiorad Naomh,
a rugadh ó Mhuire Ógh;
a d'fhulaing páis faoi Phointius Píoláit,
a céasadh ar chrois, a fuair bás agus a adhlacadh;
a chuaigh síos go hIfreann,
a d'éirigh an treas lá ó mhairbh;
a chuaigh suas ar neamh;
atá ina shuí ar dheis Dé,
An tAthair uilechumhachtach;
As sin tiocfaidh sé chun
Breithiúnas a thabhairt Ar bheo agus ar mhairbh.
Creidim sa Spiorad Naomh,
Sa Naomh-Eaglais chaitliceach,
I gcomaoin na naomh;
I maithiúnas na bpeacaí
In aiséirí na colainne,
Agus sa bheatha shíoraí. Amen

An Salve Regina (The Hail Holy Queen)

Go mbeannaítear duit, a Bhanríon Naofa,
A Mháthair na trócaire, Go mbeannaítear duit
Ár mbeatha, ár mílseacht agus ár ndóchas
Is ort a ghlaoimid,
Clann bocht dhíbeartha Éabha.
Is chugatsa suas a chuirimid ár n-urnaí,
Ag caoineadh agus ag gol
Sa ghleann seo na ndeor,
ar an ábhar sin, ós tú ár n-abhcóide,
Iompaigh orainn dó shúile atá lán de thrua,
Agus tar éis na deoraíochta seo
Taispeáin dúinn Íosa,
Toradh beannaithe do bhroinne,
A Mhaighdean Mhuire ró-thrócaireach, ró-ghrámhar, ró-mhilis.
V. Guigh orainn a naomh-Mháthair Dé
R. Ionas gur fiú sinn gealltanais Chríost a fháil.

The traditions of the Irish people are the oldest of any race in Europe north and west of the Alps, and they themselves are the longest settled on their own soil
- Edmund Curtis (A History of Ireland: From Earliest Times to 1922)

The Irish are one of the most ancient nations that I know of at this end of the world, and are from as mighty a race as the world ever brought forth.
For it is certain that Ireland hath had the use of letters very anciently and long before England; that they had letters anciently is nothing doubtful, for the Saxons of England are said to have their letters and learning, and learned men, from the Irish.
- Edmund Spenser (writer, and British Government Official in Ireland, AD 1596).

The renaissance began in Ireland seven hundred years before it was known in Italy. And Armagh, the ecclesiastical capital of Ireland, was at one time the metropolis of civilisation.
- Arsene Darmesteter, Professor of Old French and Literature

Ireland can indeed lay claim to a great past; she can not only boast of having been the birthplace and abode of high culture in the fifth and sixth centuries . . . but also of having made strenous efforts in the seventh and up to the tenth century to spread her learning among the German and Romance peoples, thus forming the actual fountain of our present continental civilisation.
- Heinrich Zimmer, Professor of Celtic and Sanskrit, Member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences
