National Museum of Wales goes Islamic!
Wales correspondent reports. Do the ordinary people of Wales really deserve their hard earned taxes to be squandered in grant aid to cultural bodies such as the ‘National Museum of Wales’; to be used by an apparently small out of touch elite, to promote what is seen by many as a politically motivated campaign of Islamic propaganda? The National Museum of Wales, or, as they say in Welsh, Amgueddfa Cymru, celebrates its’ centenary in 2007. What better way can there be to celebrate Welsh history and culture than to produce exhibitions on, wait for it:- ‘1001 Inventions: Discover the Muslim Heritage in our World’! - learn about muslim contributions in our home. - discover muslim contributions to the world of education. - explore the culture of the muslim bazaar. - venture into the world of muslim medicine. - experience the community culture of islam. - expand your horizon with muslim science. And, if this isn’t enough, don’t worry, there’s plenty more laid on by our guardians of Welsh culture and the arts, there’s also:- ‘The Muslim world on your doorstep!’ - Glanely Gallery: ’The festival of muslim cultures’ - St.Fagans National History Museum: Eid-al-Fitr celebrations at end of Ramadan’. - National Museum Cardiff: Prophets of Peace Koranic Recital - National Waterfront Museum: Islamic Extravaganza. Hasn’t Wales got a long and rich culture of its own to celebrate? You may think that this is a bit strange, particularly as Wales has an enormous heritage of its’ own, not least in the field of early Christianity. Do you think, perhaps, there might be a connection with the planning permission given to build the new Medina mosque in Cardiff? This complex, which will be the largest religious place of worship in a supposedly Christian Wales, will include a prayer hall for 3,000 worshippers, a madrassa school with five classrooms, an Islamic library and underground parking for 150 cars! Plaid Islam, formerly Plaid, formerly Plaid Cymru! Do you also think, perhaps, that there might be a connection with Plaids’ declared aspirations to have more Muslim councillors and representatives in Wales than all the other parties put together? After all, wasn’t it Plaids’ Dafydd Ellis Thomas who was alleged in the media to say: ”When I sit in my chair in our new debating chamber, I am ashamed when I look out and see before me a sea of white faces’’? Plaid, formerly known as Plaid Cymru (Party of Wales) has, of course, dropped the “Cymru” part from its title – however speculation has it that it will, in due course, add the appellation Islam to its name and relaunch itseld as Plaid Islam, which, of course, will be totally in keeping with its long term vison for Wales. Are the ruling “elite” having a laugh - with our money? The NMGW (National Museums and Galleries in Wales) was established by a Royal Charter in 1907 as the National Museum of Wales. NMGW develops, cares for, studies and encourages access to its collections, for the benefit of society in perpetuity. The 1907 Charter states that this is to be achieved primarily by the complete illustration of the geology, mineralogy, zoology, botany, ethnography, archaeology, art, history and special industries of Wales and generally by collection, conservation, elucidation, presentation and publication. Although an independent chartered body, NMGW is supported by the National Assembly for Wales as an Assembly Sponsored Public Body (ASPB) and receives its core funding through grant-in-aid. So what on earth do they think they’re playing at ? Why not write to the members of the Council (listed below) and ask them for an explanation? I am guessing you either won't get one or they will tell you to embrace or appreciate the cultural achievements of the Islamic world

The fastest growing Party in Wales? Are they hell! They have 1 County Coluncillor in the whole of Wales - not 1 MP, not 1 AM, not 1 MEP, and not 1 Town Councillor! They have 1 County Councillor in Flintshire who was a man moved into the area from England, stood as a Labour member, got elected and after he was elected he changed to the BNP. So the 1 member they do have came in through the back door! People who have replied in support of this message need to actually think first, in writting to the Museum you have just made youselves look stupid I'm afraid. The National Museum runs a entire museum aimed at promoting Welsh Life - it's called the Museum of Welsh Life outside Cardiff - of course the BNP being Racists wouldn't mention that would they! The Islamic exhibition is perfectly justifiable - they do actually have Muslilms living here you know and have done for many many years when Cardiff was a large port sending steel and coal across the world. An exhibition can note what they have done through out Modern Welsh History and given the racial tensions existing since the Acts of Terrorism on Sept 11th and in London more recently which the Racists are trying to take advantage of something like this is a good idea! Plaid Cymru are still known as Plaid Cymru, the Party of Wales. When we have an election in April it is that name that will be on the forms. To claim otherwise is again BNP lies. Plaid is a brand name - used to take advantage of the fact thats what many call it. Dafydd Ellis Thomas, too was right to draw attention to the fact every AM is white. However, after the Assembly Elections in April it is quite possible Plaid Cymru will be the first party to have an Ethnic Minority AM. And guess what? He'll be a Muslim! And that is why the Racist BNP are attacking Plaid Cymru - they can't stand the thought that a Muslim can actually be proud to be Welsh! |

So basically you are just a Racist biggot aren't you, haven't your country suffered enough in recently history at the hands of racists ? Shame on you!
A Muslim can certainly be Welsh! With every due respect but who are you to tell me that they cant be Welsh? I know of 2 White people born and bought up Welsh, and can speak the language who have converted to Islam a long time ago. I also know of many others who fully support Wales and regard themselves as Welsh, they just happen to follow the Islamic Faith. Plaid Cymru are a true party of Wales, they put Wales first and wish to see Wales develop into a vibrant proud forward thinking country. I couldn't care less what religion they are, or what race that are as long as they respect my rights as much as I respect their rights. I can't stand racists, and you are a prime example! |

Noy withstanding the contributions that the muslim world made during the middle ages (though arabs often forgot that they had first to translate the greek classics before they could made any usuful achievement for human kind) what appals me is the fact that the WELSH NATIONAL MUSEUM is supposed to deal with WELSH CONCERNS so if even exhibition regarding english, scottish or irish matters might be irrelevant in the WELSH NATIONAL MUSEUM how much more will be mosleem themes then!!!!
What the hell is going on in this world??? The word NATIONAL doesn't mean NOTHING now? Are they giving new Meanings to words???? are the TV programs broadcasting subliminary messages that are progressively brainwashing every body?

What's worse - Brits or Muslims.
It's a tough question that will take me time to answer........ ![]() Of course, Wales should be for the Welsh. Not for BNP Unionists nor Muslim immigrants.

The traditions of the Irish people are the oldest of any race in Europe north and west of the Alps, and they themselves are the longest settled on their own soil - Edmund Curtis (A History of Ireland: From Earliest Times to 1922) The Irish are one of the most ancient nations that I know of at this end of the world, and are from as mighty a race as the world ever brought forth. For it is certain that Ireland hath had the use of letters very anciently and long before England; that they had letters anciently is nothing doubtful, for the Saxons of England are said to have their letters and learning, and learned men, from the Irish. - Edmund Spenser (writer, and British Government Official in Ireland, AD 1596). The renaissance began in Ireland seven hundred years before it was known in Italy. And Armagh, the ecclesiastical capital of Ireland, was at one time the metropolis of civilisation. - Arsene Darmesteter, Professor of Old French and Literature Ireland can indeed lay claim to a great past; she can not only boast of having been the birthplace and abode of high culture in the fifth and sixth centuries . . . but also of having made strenous efforts in the seventh and up to the tenth century to spread her learning among the German and Romance peoples, thus forming the actual fountain of our present continental civilisation. - Heinrich Zimmer, Professor of Celtic and Sanskrit, Member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences |
