Only a little bit crazy...
Slovenia, impressions

I know I promised panorama-esque images but VB Image Host restricts the file size too much and I must find a good image host that doesn't restrict.. so anyways. It's been two years nearly since I was in Slovenia, in Ljubjana. So I've decided to blog about my impressions so the single photo doesn't look as pathetic as it does without text.
I went to Northeastern Italy and Slovenia with my mum and dad. We had rented a car to go to Slovenia in and I think my mum was worried because we had to get permission to take it into Slovenia (something about it being on a list of countries that one can't take rental cars into without permission).
My first impression after crossing the border was amazement. It is a beautiful country and an environment I'd never really encountered before (hilly and green with flat between). It was a lovely drive but I would have enjoyed to walk it just as well.
Ljubjana to me has an interesting mixture of architectures, maybe again because I'd never encountered the building style. It is probably one of my favourite cities to have visited and would certainly love to go back and visit again. I enjoyed walking through the city and stopping sometimes at a café to have toast (with cheese! delicious cheese! I wish I knew what type of cheese it was ,-,)...
One thing I was glad of was that (at the time) there was no bloody euros. A relief at last, an interesting currency. I was sad to learn that Slovenia was changing to the euro. So I kept some currency and took it home. >.>
Bled was a very nice region too, I liked stopping on the way back in a village with an iron forge... I can't remember the village's name but I believe the forge was called "Uko". My mum befriended a very nice woman who gave us directions through her English-speaking son. ^^
All in all, despite not having enough time to thoroughly explore Slovenia, I enjoyed it. I wish to go back some day. Perhaps in the near future ^^

It's nice you liked the country. Ljubljana is a nice city compared to those multicultural gigantic cities, it has less than 300000 inhabitants (small for capital), very 'green' city considering there are lot of trees and parks, it's clean too.
The enviroment you're describing is more typical for north-western Slovenia, it's a very diverse country and you have everything from Alps to completly flat landscape and there is a bit of sea. Bled and surroundings are more tourist sites, but of course it's very nice, there is also Bohinj lake nearby, which is however a little less interesting for tourists I guess. There is a lot more of Slovenia than what you saw, but the other parts of Slovenia are not that interesting for tourists, as there aren't much interesting tourists sites (except few older cities), but it's more the people and environment, beautiful landscape that make Slovenia great. |

To me, it's not the most important to see the tourist sites. The countryside is enough and maybe to make friends and have fun ^^
Also I didn't have much choice of where to go because I was with my mum and dad |

Sure, I understand, I'm just saying there's more of Slovenia and I'm actually happy that the rest of Slovenia is not so attractive to tourists, at least not in the sense of massive tourism.
Btw, I believe my comments are moderated and not visible to other people here. ![]() |
