Default Questions for Irish members

Few thoughts I had from the John McEnroe thread.

What do you make of Irish Americans. They are not "Irish" in the true sense. But did they not help Ireland in recent history, both materially (sending money for food etc) and politically?

What do you think about Sinn Fein as a nationalist party. From my POV, the BNP is inadequate as a voice for England, British nationalism is an oxymoron. So I wonder the same for Sinn Fein. I also want to know what Irish members think about the attitude of the nationalist Sinn Fein in relation to immigration to Ireland. From what I can make out, Sinn Fein are toeing a multicultural line. I know that Sinn Fein is informed by some leftist idealogies.

I do not really understand the Irish political scene so forgive my ignorance. Apparently the parties all tend to be strongly pro-EU. The Irish run a tight ship economically also (?)

I find many Irish Americans to be quite likable and many others to be totally unlikeable. Generally the ones from the New York City area are the worst. Philadelphia seems to have a better bunch of Irish for some reason but they can still be hard to take sometimes.

Edit:

I remembered this quote from an unfunny Jewish comedian which partly explains what I mean about cultural mutation:

Quote:
Even if you are Catholic, if you live in New York you're Jewish. If you live in Butte, Montana, you are going to be goyish even if you are Jewish.

The EU has been a Trojan Horse in Irish politics. In exchange for the gift of farm and industrial subsidies Ireland has agreed to unrestricted immigration and bogus human rights legislation. Unfortunately all the mainstream parties seem to think this is a good deal.
