Default I've forgotten how being sick feels like.

I haven't been sick for a couple years, really sick, except the occasional headache, cough or runny-nose. I've been terrible sick for the past couple of days and I think it's peaked. I went to doctors and I've got strep-throat and a Sinus Infection. I didn't know one could have the two simultanious. So I got a fever, terrible sinus pains, a headache that is seriously making me think if a bullet in the brain could be less painful, and a throat that is so parched and mucus covered it would take 500 cups of tea and a week before I can speak without sounding like a frog. And that is not the end of the symptoms. The only way I can get sleep is to take sleeping/cold pills, which knock me out. Even then I only get 3 hours before I start hacking uncontrolably and wake up in the night. So if I am on this board a little much, their is your reason. I can't sleep, I feel like feces and I think I will play some Rome: TW.

For the strep throat I would recommend a few shots of vodka, eating a few cloves of garlic, and gargling with salt water or peroxide and water (read up on it first).

For sinus problems I have used common nasal sprays, but I've also had success with GSE (grapefruit seed extract).

I have a Nasal spray the doctor gave me, but it burns like hell. I gargel with salt water for the throat, I was always told that helps. As for vodka, I haven't tried it, but am willing to.

sorry to hear you're so ill Timo. hope you'll get better soon.

i had a really bad bout of the flu a few weeks ago and it was awful. be careful about drinking alcohol when taking antibiotics - which your doc has very likely prescribed since you have mucus on your tonsils/throat. i would say forget the vodka, at least for now.

drink plenty of liquid and get as much rest as you can.

I suppose the doctor already prescribed you some antibiotics for your strep throat. To regain your voice and ease the pain you can add some honey to your tea (drink it hot of course) or milk and you could also try lozenges (you know, these medicated candies for throat problems). I myself have always had sleeping problems and I read it is not good to take sleeping pills, at least not to often - they can become addictive and your sleep really gets disturbed afterwards. I used to take them and I found myself not being able to sleep without them anymore. Also if you take those alcohol isn't exactly recommended. Don't spend too much time in front of your monitor/tv or reading, your feever can go up and you can feel worse, at least for me it happens. Have a speedy recovery.

Thanks for your kind words and suggestions. Your right etoile, no alcohol for a while... That will almost be impossible. Cough medicine does have some in it I think. Any way, maybe I'll get well before my next class, which is wednesday. I doubt it. I might have to show for that one. Can't miss to much classes. Mein schönes Mädchen, thanks for reminding me about the honey. My mom told me of that long ago, but I'd forgotten it. It goes good in tea, too. I also had it with my meals, mostly sick-food like oatmeal pourage and soups, also put honey on toast or bread. I read that it has natural antibacterial properties, ancient people's put it on cuts and wounds.

That spray for my nose cleared everything up, but it burned like hellfires. I doubt I'll use it agian. The doctor said only to use it up to three days, no more than twice a day or you could become addicted to it. (I guess your body thinks it needs it or something)

While my friends went out partying last weekend I was home, sick and coughing. Now they go back to work, I am home sick and coughing still.

There's also this sort of nasal crayon that you can find at the pharmacy and you have to sniff it. I used to try it for my nose and my friends laughed at me saying I looked like I was sniffing drugs

I myself have had a recent bout with illness--the flu to be precise...complete with fevor and an achy body. The CDC has influenza as "widespread" in my area.

I am on "the mends" now though.

Instead of vodka, when sick, I always treat myself to a mug full of hot mulled apple cider with a shot or two of spiced rum. Good stuff.
