![]() should I edit the poll and introduce options like: "every few seconds" or "with every heartbeat"? or maybe another poll: when are you not pissed off with the modern wold?

As for me, well, maybe pissed off isn't the correct word...just disappointed or disenchanted. |

As long as I draw breath. I long for the ancient times. As B. Mädchen has under her user name, I am "nicht Modern."

Most of the time, several times a day and every time I see something which makes me long for an era where one could go down the street without bumping into a negro, a gypsy or any other assorted mongrel.

Nowadays we are surrounded by decadence and just reading the news gives me a reason not to be all cheerful about it. I voted for the first option. I was going to mention something about my user title, but I see someone else already did it

The modern world is fine with me, I like it, but it's the people that piss me off the most. They are either too stupid, or too selfish, always thinking they are superior to someone or something, not realising that they are being controled by dumbass pop-up banners and TV commercials with Horst Fuchs.People are the worst

i voted - every now and then - because quite frankly i can't understand how we can long to live in ancient times when we weren't around then, and don't know the extent of the problems our ancestors faced.
i sometimes feel that people are never happy. you speak to the older generation and they say "oh you have it so easy these days, we never had all the mod cons that you have these days". then we have a poll and most of today's "youngsters" vote that they are always pissed off at the modern world. are we born with this "never satisfied" gene? is it intrinsic to our nature to always want what we don't have? having said that, i must admit that living in malta does have the benefit of being "backward" in the sense that the frantic, hurried way of life that is inherent to most modern societies in mainland europe hasen't yet reached our shores. this is a country where shops open from 9am-1pm, close for siesta and re open from 4 - 7pm. the normal working hours for offices are 9 to 5, with approx 45 mins for a lunch break, hardly anyone exceeds the 40 hour week, and furthermore in the summer, everyone works half days for almost 3 months! even the civil servants finish work at 1pm during the summer months. |

....well quite frankly I am always getting dissatisfied with the situation within modern society. You really cannot put a number on it as it varies from day to day, however it occurs often.
However it is not so much modernisation (afterall it being a very broad term just as socialism is also) being the problem rather the direction it is taking & the orientation stemming from it, thus giving rise to such problems within society, but a good progressive sense of modernisation merged with a dose of tradition for good measure within the greater scheme of Nationalism would be ideal. Oh, it's a daily occurence for me for sure.
The frequency of this feeling though can vary from day to day. For example, if I am on a 10 mile ski tour through the woods and hills of my home region, the modern world is far, far away and I am at peace in my wild surrounds. However, the next day, I may be at my desk working and listening to the news on the radio--and well, perhaps you can imagine my thoughts when I hear of the goings-on here and abroad.... |

The modern world is not bad. I can be in Rome from Sydney in less than a day. I can be as clean as I want, eat what I want and when I want. I should have a long life with few diseases to worry about. I have been to university twice for no cost to me. I can still escape to go snow boarding in the Australian Alps or canoeing on the Thomson river near Walhalla in my home State in total bush country. So I think the modern world is all right.

As for being pissed off with the modern world, it is a feeling I experience every single day, just turn the TV on and there you have enough reasons. |
